Louis-Frédéric Lescure
Louis-Frédéric Lescure (27 May 1904 – 5 December 1993) was a French industrialist, and the CEO of Groupe SEB from 1953 to 1972. Early life Lescure was born on 27 May 1904. Career Lescure was the CEO of Groupe SEB from 1953 to 1972. In the 1950s, Lescure launched the Cocotte-Minute, the first one-piece stamped aluminium pressure cooker. Lescure was president of the regional council of Bourgogne from 1983 to 1985. Personal life, death and legacy Lescure married Françoise Helie, and they had eleven children. Lescure died on 5 December 1993, aged 89. Groupe SEB (''Société d'Emboutissage de Bourgogne'') is a large French consortium that produces small appliances, and it is the world's largest manufacturer of cookware. Notable brand names associated with Groupe SEB include All-Clad, IMUSA , Krups, Moulinex, Rowenta, Tefal (including OBH Nordica) and WMF Group. According to the Groupe SEB website, they have faced considerable competition from low-price Chinese competitors, but have managed to maintain a constant sales level. A large proportion of their product lines are now manufactured in China. Its headquarters are in Ecully, a Lyon suburb. Emmanuel Lescure
Emmanuel Lescure (c. 1930 – 1 April 2017) was a French businessman, and the chairman of Groupe SEB from 1976 to 1990. Early life Lescure was one of eleven children of Louis-Frédéric Lescure, CEO of Groupe SEB from 1953 to 1972, and his wife Françoise Lescure née Helie. Career Lescure spent his whole career with Groupe SEB, and was the chairman from 1976 to 1990. Pressure Cooker
Pressure cooking is the process of cooking food under high pressure steam and water or a water-based cooking liquid, in a sealed vessel known as a ''pressure cooker''. High pressure limits boiling, and creates higher cooking temperatures which cook food far more quickly. The pressure cooker was invented in the seventeenth century by the physicist Denis Papin, and works by expelling air from the vessel, and trapping steam produced from the boiling liquid. This is used to raise the internal pressure up to one atmosphere above ambient and gives higher cooking temperatures between . A regional council (french: conseil régional) is the elected assembly of a region of France. History Regional councils were created by law on 5 July 1972. Originally they were simply consultative bodies consisting of the region's parliamentary representatives plus an equal number of members nominated by the departments and communes. The decentralisation programme of 1982–1983 under President François Mitterrand provided for direct election which began in 1986 and increased the powers of the councils.
