Lotuspool Records is an American independent record label formed in 1992 in Lawrence, Kansas by musicians Chris Garibaldi and Matt Hyde. The company was named after a horse Garibaldi and Hyde bet on when having a business meeting on the lawn of Arlington National Raceway. Lotuspool's stable of artists includes Zoom (band), Zoom, Panel Donor, Bully Pulpit, Suneaters, and The Weightmen. In 2012, the year of Lotuspool's 20th anniversary, Lotuspool moved to change music distribution by offering all Lotuspool albums for free download and streaming. The Internet Underground Music Archive (IUMA) was an organization that provided a venue for unsigned artists to share their music and communicate with their audience. IUMA is widely recognized as the birthplace of on-line music. IUMA's goal was to help independent artists use the Internet to distribute their music to fans while circumventing the usual distribution model of using a record company. IUMA was started by Rob Lord, Jeff Patterson and Jon Luini from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1993. IUMA originally existed as FTP and Gopher sites, before the World Wide Web was widely used. On March 9, 1994 CNN featured IUMA in their "Showbiz News" segment. Suneaters are an American psychedelic, rock and roll band formed in Kansas City, Missouri in 2008. The band members include Scott Hartley, Chris Lost, Michael Judd, and Nick Carroll. Suneaters’ debut LP “One” was released in October 2011 on Lotuspool Records, an independent record label started by Chris Lost in the early 1990s. Suneaters advocate what they call a DIT (Do-it-together) culture – a variation on the DIY (Do-it-yourself) punk rock ethos. James Grauerholz (born December 14, 1953) is a writer and editor. He is the bibliographer and literary executor of the estate of William S. Burroughs. Life and career Grauerholz was born in Coffeyville, Kansas and attended the University of Kansas for a year before dropping out and traveling to New York City. By his own admission, he was fascinated with Beat Generation literature and authors. Grauerholz became acquainted with Burroughs in the 1970s while befriending Allen Ginsberg in New York City. Ginsberg recommended Grauerholz to Burroughs as a possible assistant and their working relationship began in this simple manner, yet grew to be a major factor in the popularization of Burroughs and his works.
