Martin Johnson Heade
Martin Johnson Heade (August 11, 1819 – September 4, 1904) was an American Painting, painter known for his salt marsh Landscape art, landscapes, seascapes, and depictions of hummingbirds, often depicted with orchids, as well as lotus blossoms and other still lifes. His painting style and subject matter, while derived from the romanticism of the time, are regarded by art historians as a significant departure from those of his peers. Heade was born in Lumberville, Pennsylvania, the son of a storekeeper. He studied with Edward Hicks, and possibly with Thomas Hicks. His earliest works were produced during the 1840s and were chiefly portraits. He travelled to Europe several times as a young man, became an itinerant artist on American shores, and exhibited in Philadelphia in 1841 and New York in 1843. Lotus Long (born Lotus Pearl Shibata, July 18, 1909 – September 14, 1990) was an Asian-American film actress. Early life Long was born in New Jersey to Ishiro Shibata and Blanche Leleu. She came to Southern California during the 1920s to act in Hollywood films and usually portrayed ethnic Asian female characters in supporting roles. She used the name Lotus Long for stage and film. Due to her professional surname, people generally assumed that she was of Chinese ancestry. During World War II she used this name to avoid incarceration in American internment camps with other persons of Japanese ancestry, which included both legal permanent residents and American citizens. Lotus Thompson (26 August 1904 – 19 May 1963California Death Index 1940–1997, Lotus Thompson, Los Angeles, 19 May 1963.) was an Australian actress of silent and sound films. Her film career began in Australia in 1921 and ended in California in 1949, during which time she appeared in 35 motion pictures. She died in California in 1963. Baroness Lotus de Païni (née Elvezia Giulia Maria Gazzotti; 28 November 1862 – 22 July 1953) was an Italian painter, sculptor, writer, and occultist. She also used the names L. E. De Paini, Lotus Gazzotti, and Lotus Péralté. Early life, family, and education Lotus de Païni was born on 28 November 1862, in Copparo in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, and raised in Vallauris in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France. Her mother Thérèse Guignon was French from Vallauris, and her father Giuseppe Gazzotti was Swiss-born Italian. She married Baron Nicolas de Païni in c. 1890, and they divorced nine years later. Lotus Delta Coffman (January 7, 1875 – September 23, 1938) was the fifth president of the University of Minnesota, serving from 1920 until his death in office on September 22, 1938. Lotus L. Langley (September 15, 1875-1955) was a Democratic Party of Oregon, Democratic politician and lawyer in the U.S. state of Oregon in the early 20th century. He served one term as district attorney of Multnomah County, Oregon, Multnomah County, after defeating rival Stanley Myers by the largest majority of any previous occupant of the office. A "Committee of 50" vigorously pursued his recall in 1932, but fell just short of the requisite number of signatures.
