Lothar Spranger is a German former association football, footballer who played as a Goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper. Career Spranger played in the DDR-Oberliga in the 1950s with 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig for five seasons. In 1957, he received a short-term travel visa to West Germany and as result Defection, defected. In 1960, he played abroad in Switzerland with FC Kreuzlingen and played with the organization for two seasons. In 1961, he continued his career this time in North America where he played in Canada's Canadian National Soccer League, National Soccer League with Toronto Olympia for the 1962 season. He would re-sign with Toronto for the 1963 National Soccer League season, 1963 season. For the remainder of the 1963 season, he played in the Greater Los Angeles Soccer League with Germania. National Professional Soccer League (1967)
The National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) was a North American professional soccer league that existed for only the 1967 season before merging with the United Soccer Association (USA) to form the North American Soccer League. It had ten charter members, nine from the United States and one from Canada. To encourage attacking play, the NPSL introduced a new standings points system that was later used by the NASL – 6 points for a win, 3 for a draw, 0 for a loss and 1 bonus point for each of the first three goals scored.
