''Lossinia lissetskii'' is a fossil marine organism from Precambrian strata of the White Sea area, in Russia. ''L. lissetskii'' is a member of the extinct phylum Proarticulata. Etymology The generic name refers to the Losinoe Bog (Moose Bog), near the locality on the Zimnii Bereg (Winter Coast) of the White Sea in the Arkhangelsk Region, Russia where the fossils are found. The specific name honors the keeper of the Zimnegorskiy Lighthouse, Valery S. Lisetskii. Occurrence Fossils of ''Lossinia lissetskii'' are known from deposits of the Verkhovka and Yorga formations of the White Sea area, Arkhangelsk Region, Russia. Description The small, oblong-shaped fossils range in length from 3.2 to 8.4 millimetres and 1.8 to 4.7 millimetres in width. The body is subdivided into a distinct, semicircular-shaped head-region and an elongated segmented trunk-region. Proarticulata is a proposed phylum of extinct, bilaterally symmetrical animals known from fossils found in the Ediacaran (Vendian) marine deposits, and dates to approximately . The name comes from the Greek () = "before" and Articulata, i.e. prior to animals with true segmentation such as annelids and arthropods. This phylum was established by Mikhail A. Fedonkin in 1985 for such animals as '' Dickinsonia'', ''Vendia'', ''Cephalonega'', ''Praecambridium'' and currently many other Proarticulata are described (see list). Tamga (genus)
''Tamga hamulifera'' is a disk-shaped fossil from Precambrian strata of the White Sea area, in Russia, the only member of the genus ''Tamga''. Description The small (3–5 mm in length), disk-shaped fossil has seven hook-like isomers in a star-like arrangement in the clearly expressed peripheral undivided zone. ''T. hamulifera'' is probably a member of Proarticulata, as it is strongly similar to ''Praecambridium sigillum'' in the general shape, and the presence of hooklike isomers; ''Tamga'' is also similar to ''Onega stepanovi'' in the flattened body with a compact group of ledges-isomers in the central part encircled by an undivided zone. Isomer (Greek ''isos'' = "equal", ''méros'' = "part") is an element of transverse body articulation of the bilateral fossil animals of the Phylum Proarticulata from the Ediacaran (Vendian) period. This term has been proposed by Andrey Yu. Ivantsov, a Russian paleontologist from the Laboratory of the Precambrian organisms, Paleontological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences. Morphology Proarticulatan isomers are distinct from the segments of the Annelida and Panarthropoda, as each of these elements occupies only half of width of a body and are organized in an alternating pattern relatively to the axis of the body. The Ediacaran (; formerly Vendian) biota is a taxonomic period classification that consists of all life forms that were present on Earth during the Ediacaran Period ().
