Losing Chase
''Losing Chase'' is a 1996 American drama film made for television, directed by Kevin Bacon in his directorial debut. The screenplay was written by Anne Meredith. Set in Martha's Vineyard, it stars Helen Mirren, Kyra Sedgwick and Beau Bridges. ''Losing Chase'' had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 1996. Produced for the Showtime network, it was broadcast on August 18, 1996. After receiving a generally positive reception it was given a limited theatrical release in December. ''Losing Chase'' was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards. Plot Following a nervous breakdown and upon returning home following treatment, Chase Phillips ( Helen Mirren) is hired a helper, Elizabeth (Kyra Sedgwick) by her husband, Richard ( Beau Bridges). Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon or Bacon's Law is a parlor game where players challenge each other to arbitrarily choose an actor and then connect them to another actor via a film that both actors have appeared in together, repeating this process to try to find the shortest path that ultimately leads to prolific American actor Kevin Bacon. It rests on the assumption that anyone involved in the Hollywood film industry can be linked through their film roles to Bacon within six steps. The game's name is a reference to "six degrees of separation", a concept that posits that any two people on Earth are six or fewer acquaintance links apart.
