Los Matreros Rugby Club
Rugby Club Los Matreros, simply known as Los Matreros, is an Argentine rugby union and field hockey club sited in Castelar, a city of Morón Partido in Greater Buenos Aires. The rugby union team is also member of the Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires (URBA). History The team was founded on August 28, 1928 and less than a year later it would join the Argentine Rugby Union to play at the third division, competing with 22 teams. The club's name was chosen as a tribute to the Martín Fierro, the most renowned poem of the "Gauchesco" literature in Argentina. Martín Fierro (the character) is described by the author, José Hernández as a "matrero" ("smart", "clever" in English) gaucho. The Buenos Aires Rugby Union ( es, "Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires"), usually referred as URBA, is the Argentine governing body that organises and controls the rugby union in the Buenos Aires Province (including the main district, Buenos Aires autonomous city and one team from Rosario, Santa Fé). ''Martín Fierro'', also known as ''El Gaucho Martín Fierro'', is a 2,316-line epic poem by the Argentine writer José Hernández. The poem was originally published in two parts, ''El Gaucho Martín Fierro'' (1872) and ''La Vuelta de Martín Fierro'' (1879). The poem supplied a historical link to the gauchos' contribution to the national development of Argentina, for the gaucho had played a major role in Argentina's independence from Spain. José Hernández (born José Rafael Hernández y Pueyrredón; November 10, 1834 – October 21, 1886) was an Argentine journalist, poet, and politician best known as the author of the epic poem ''Martín Fierro''. Biography Hernández, whose ancestry was Spanish, was born on a farm near San Martín (Buenos Aires Province). His father was a majordomo or foreman of a series of cattle ranches. His career was to be an alternation between stints on the ''Federal'' side in the civil wars of Argentina and Uruguay and life as a newspaperman, a short stint as an employee of a commercial firm, and a period as stenographer to the legislature of the Confederation.
