Los Barruecos
Los Barruecos is a natural monument ( es, ) in Malpartida de Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain. It is located in the municipality of Malpartida de Cáceres, south of the urban centre. The area features granitic formations with landscape interest, together with artificial ponds, used in the past as wool washers. It houses colonies of white storks as well as cormorants, grebes and black-winged stilts. The area also features a number of archaeological remains, such as rock art in granite shelters and anthropomorphic tombs carved in granite. The Vostell Malpartida museum of contemporary art is also located in the area. Extremadura
Extremadura (; ext, Estremaúra; pt, Estremadura; Fala: ''Extremaúra'') is an autonomous community of Spain. Its capital city is Mérida, and its largest city is Badajoz. Museo Vostell Malpartida
The Museo Vostell Malpartida in the Spanish village Malpartida de Cáceres west of the provincial capital Cáceres in the Autonomous Community of Extremadura is dedicated to the work of the German painter, sculptor, Fluxus and Happening artist Wolf Vostell. The museum is under the artistic direction of Mercedes Vostell and under the general direction of José Antonio Agúndez García. The Museo Vostell Malpartida was founded by Wolf Vostell and Mercedes Vostell in 1976. History In 1976 Wolf Vostell created a sculpture in Los Barruecos with his automobile, a black Opel Admiral from 1970 with which he had travelled with his family through Extremadura. Malpartida de Cáceres is a municipality in the province of Cáceres (Spain) with a population of 4368 inhabitants (population figures on 1 January 2004). The urban centre of Malpartida de Cáceres is situated 11 kilometres west from Cáceres city. Natural environment The Natural Monument of Los Barruecos is a protected natural area of about 319 hectares where stone and water constitute the landscape. The varied fauna of this place has the white stork (Ciconia ciconia) as its most significant animal because the population of storks, not only in the Natural Monument, but also in the rest of the municipal territory, is one of the biggest in Europe. Black-winged Stilt
The black-winged stilt (''Himantopus himantopus'') is a widely distributed very long-legged wader in the avocet and stilt family (Recurvirostridae). The scientific name ''H. himantopus'' is sometimes applied to a single, almost cosmopolitan species.
