Los Angeles Skyhawks
The Los Angeles Skyhawks was a professional soccer club based in Los Angeles, California, that was a member of the American Soccer League. Founded as part of the American Soccer League's expansion to the west coast in 1976, they were the first professional sports team to be based in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. The ASL, under commissioner Bob Cousy, had expanded in an attempt to compete with the North American Soccer League. Coming into the league with the Skyhawks were the Oakland (later Golden Bay) Buccaneers, Tacoma Tides, Sacramento Spirits, and the Utah Pioneers (later Golden Spikers). These teams formed the Western Division, while the Eastern Division had the established teams New York Apollo, Connecticut Yankees, Rhode Island Oceaneers, Chicago Cats, New Jersey Americans, and Cleveland Cobras. Steve Ralbovsky is a Yugoslav-American former soccer player. He was the 1975 Hermann Trophy winner as the outstanding collegiate soccer player of the year. He then had an extensive professional career including time in the North American Soccer League and the American Soccer League II and III. Steve Cacciatore
Steve Cacciatore is a retired American soccer forward who played professionally in the American Soccer League and the North American Soccer League. Cacciatore grew up on "The Hill" (an Italian neighborhood) in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from St. Louis University High School. He then attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he played on the men's soccer team from 1972 to 1975. He, along with the rest of the 1972 team, was inducted into the SIUE Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. On January 14, 1976, the Rochester Lancers selected Cacciatore in the third round of the North American Soccer League draft. Anthony M. Whelan (; born 20 November 1952) is an English former professional footballer who works as assistant academy director of Manchester United. He is responsible for the Under-9 to Under-16 player development programme. Ane Mihailovich is a Yugoslavian-American former soccer player. He spent at least four seasons in the American Soccer League, four in the North American Soccer League and one in the Major Indoor Soccer League. He also earned five caps with the United States men's national soccer team in 1977. Jimmy Hinch
James Hinch (born 8 November 1947) is an English retired Association football forward who spent most of his career in the lower English divisions. He also played two seasons in the American Soccer League, where he was the 1976 ASL leading scorer MVP, and two in the North American Soccer League. Hinch began his professional career in 1969 with Tranmere Rovers in the Football League Third Division. On 10 February 1971, Tranmere transferred Hinch to fellow third division club Plymouth Argyle. In 1973, he then moved to Hereford United. In 1974, Hinch moved up to York City which had just won promotion to the Football League Second Division the previous season. Jimmy Rolland
Jimmy Rolland was a Scottish football forward who spent four seasons in the American Soccer League. He was the 1978 league leading scorer and MVP. In 1974, he signed for Northwich Victoria from Buxton. In his first season for Northwich, he scored 45 goals in 56 games; only two other Northwich players have better records in the club's history. However the lure of the growing football scene in the USA saw him sign for the Los Angeles Skyhawks in the American Soccer League. Michael John Cave (28 January 1949 – 6 November 1984) was an English association football, footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Born in Weymouth, Dorset, Cave was studying engineering when he started his career in non-League football with hometown club Weymouth F.C., Weymouth in 1966. Ken Fogarty (born in Manchester, England) is a (naturalised) American soccer coach. Fogarty was Head Coach and Technical Director of the Cayman Islands national team from 1993 to 1994 and from 1996 to 1998. Professional career Fogarty began his professional career with Stockport County at the age of seventeen.
