Los Angeles Grand Prix
The USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix is an annual track and field meeting held at the Drake Stadium track in Los Angeles. Founded in 2023, the meeting was designed to attract international athletics talent to the city in advance of the 2028 Summer Olympics. It is a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold level meetingthe second-highest level of athletics meetings behind the Diamond League. The meeting is organized by USA Track and Field, and it ran concurrently with the USATF Legends Jam music festival. Its debut received mixed reception, hindered by the late withdrawal of several top athletes. USATF CEO Max Siegel noted that the meeting lost money, drawing a crowd of 4,500 to 7,249 people by different estimates. The 100 metres, or 100-meter dash, is a sprint race in track and field competitions. The shortest common outdoor running distance, the dash is one of the most popular and prestigious events in the sport of athletics. Timothy Cheruiyot
Timothy Cheruiyot (born 20 November 1995) is a Kenyan middle-distance runner specialising in the 1500 metres. He is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medallist in the event. At the World Athletics Championships, Cheruiyot won the silver medal in 2017 in London, and a gold in 2019 in Doha. He took the silver medal in his specialty event at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games, and is also a two-time African Championship silver medallist from 2016 and 2018. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. Halimah Nakaayi
Halimah Nakaayi (born 16 October 1994) is a Ugandan middle-distance runner who specialises in the 800 metres. She is the 2019 World Champion at the event and won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championships. Nakaayi is the current Ugandan record holder for the 800 m both outdoors and indoors, and also for the 1000 metres. She competed in the 800 m at both the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, reaching the semi-finals each time. Bryce Hoppel (born September 5, 1997) is an American middle-distance runner, who is a member of the 2020 U.S. Olympic track team for the 800 meters. He holds the American indoor record in the 1000 meters. Hoppel attended the University of Kansas. Hoppel had a breakout junior year at Kansas, where he won 21 consecutive races between the indoor and outdoor season, including two NCAA Individual Championships in the 800 meters. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. Marileidy Paulino (born 25 October 1996) is a Dominican Sport of athletics, athlete Sprint (running), sprinter specializing in the 400 metres, 400 meters. Sean Bailey (born 15 July 1997) is a Jamaican athlete. Early life From Spanish Town, Jamaica and a former St Jago High School athlete, Bailey moved on to competing for the University of Texas-El Paso where he made the NCAA 400 metres final in 2021 before injuring his hamstring in the race. Career Bailey clocked 45.04 seconds to win the men's 400 metres at the Jamaican Olympic Trials. He was named in the Jamaican Olympic team for the delayed 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo having qualified through his world ranking. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (, born August 7, 1999) is an American hurdler and sprinter who competes in the 400 meters hurdles. She is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion with the Games record, and 2022 World champion with a world record time of 50.68 seconds. Setting four world records during 13 months, she was the first woman to break the 52-second (June 2021) and 51-second (July 2022) barriers in the 400 m hurdles. Terrance Laird (born October 12, 1998) is an American track and field athlete specializing in the 100 metres, 100 meters and 200 metres, 200 meters sprints. Career Laird's freshman year was at Pennsylvania State University, Penn State in 2017-18, where he won the Men's Freshman of the Year award in the Big Ten conference. He struggled academically at Penn State and transferred to Hinds Community College in Mississippi for his sophomore year. Laird moved on to Louisiana State University where he competed collegiately for the LSU Tigers track and field, LSU Tigers. On 27 March 2021, Laird ran a 19.81 200 metres at the Texas Relays meet, which was the third fastest time in NCAA history.
