Los Angeles City Council District 9
Los Angeles City Council District 9 is one of the 15 districts of the Los Angeles City Council. The Ninth District encompasses much of South Los Angeles and the western section of Downtown Los Angeles which includes L.A. Live, Crypto.com Arena, and the Los Angeles Convention Center. The current council member is Curren Price. Geography Modern The 9th formerly covered the entire core of Downtown Los Angeles, before redistricting divided it between the 9th and the 14th District. Most of Downtown is now in the nearby 14th City Council district, represented by Jose Huizar. The 9th district's boundary continues several miles to the south and ends just north of Watts. Vernon, California
Vernon is a city five miles (8.0 km) south of downtown Los Angeles, California, the nearest separate city to downtown Los Angeles. The population was 112 at the 2010 United States Census, the least of any incorporated city in the state. Its population nearly doubled to 222 by the 2020 census, making it the second least populous city in the state after Amador City, whose population grew only slightly—from 185 in the 2010 census, to 200 in the 2020 census. Rita Walters
Rita Dolores Walters (née White; August 14, 1930 – February 17, 2020) was an American politician. Political career Walters served on the Board of Library Commissioners for the Los Angeles Public Library. Prior to this position, she served on the Los Angeles City Council representing the 9th district from 1991 to 2001. During that time, she chaired the Arts, Health & Humanities Committee where she reviewed matters related to the Library Department. She was the first African-American woman elected to the City Council. Prior to this job, she was on the Los Angeles Unified School District's Board of Education (1979–1991). Parley Parker Christensen (July 19, 1869 – February 10, 1954) was an American attorney and politician who was a Utah state representative, a Los Angeles City Council member, and the Farmer–Labor Party's presidential nominee during the 1920 presidential election.
