Lorraine Silver
Lorraine Silver (born 15 October 1951 in London) is an English singer, known for her single "Lost Summer Love" (1965), which came to be regarded as a classic of Northern soul. Career Silver's singing career began in 1965, when she was thirteen and recorded an a cappella version of Brian Hyland's " Sealed With A Kiss" at a DIY singing booth in Woolworths in Oxford Street, London. The song attracted the attention of Pye Records, who signed her for a two-record deal. For her first single Silver released "Lost Summer Love", a song previously sung by Shelley Fabares. The single was produced by Tony Reeves and arranged by Johnny Harris and featured Klaus Voormann on bass guitar. Another Shelley Fabares cover, "I Know You'll Be There", was recorded for the B-side. Wigan Casino
The Wigan Casino was a nightclub in Wigan, England. Operating between 1973 and 1981, it became known as a primary venue for Northern soul music. It carried forward the legacy created by clubs such as the Twisted Wheel in Manchester, the Chateau Impney (Droitwich), the Catacombs (Wolverhampton) and the Golden Torch ( Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent). It remains one of the most famous clubs in Northern England. In 1978, allegedly the American music magazine ''Billboard'' voted Wigan Casino "The Best Disco in the World", ahead of New York City's Studio 54. Although there is no tangible evidence of this award ever being publicised. ''This England'', a TV documentary about the Wigan Casino, was filmed in 1977. Ian Geoffrey Levine (born 22 June 1953) is a British songwriter, producer, and DJ. A moderniser of Northern soul music in the UK, and a developer of the style of Hi-NRG, he has written and produced records with sales totalling over 40 million. Levine was once known as a fan of the long-running television show ''Doctor Who''. Early and personal life Levine was born into a Jewish family; his parents owned and ran the "Lemon Tree" complex in Blackpool, including its casino and nightclub. Levine is openly gay. He suffered a major stroke in July 2014, leaving him with severely limited movement on the left side of his body. Brian Hyland
Brian Hyland (born November 12, 1943) is an American pop singer and instrumentalist who was particularly successful during the early 1960s. He continued recording into the 1970s. AllMusic journalist Jason Ankeny says "Hyland's puppy-love pop virtually defined the sound and sensibility of bubblegum during the pre- Beatles era." Although his status as a teen idol faded, he went on to release several country-influenced albums and had additional chart hits later in his career. Biography Hyland was born in Woodhaven, Queens, New York City. He studied guitar and clarinet as a child, and sang in his church choir. When aged 14 he co-founded the harmony group the Del-Fi's, which recorded a demo but failed to secure a recording contract. Klaus Voormann
Klaus Otto Wilhelm Voormann (born 29 April 1938) is a German artist, musician, and record producer. Voormann was the bassist for Manfred Mann from 1966 to 1969, and performed as a session musician on a host of recordings, including "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon, Lou Reed's ''Transformer'' album, and on many recordings of the former members of the Beatles. As a producer, Voormann worked with the band Trio on their worldwide hit "Da Da Da". Voormann's association with The Beatles dates back to their time in Hamburg in the early 1960s. John Stanley Livingstone Harris (9 November 1932 – 20 March 2020) was a Scottish composer, producer, arranger, conductor, and musical director. He lived in the United States from 1972 until his death. The British years (1932–1972) Johnny Harris was born in Edinburgh, Scotland to Welsh parents and was a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music in London.
