Lorneville is a small settlement on the northern outskirts of Invercargill, in Southland, New Zealand. It is located on , at the junction with State Highways 98 and 99, and is thus also on the Southern Scenic Route. Invercargill
Invercargill ( , mi, Waihōpai is the southernmost and westernmost city in New Zealand, and one of the southernmost cities in the world. It is the commercial centre of the Southland region. The city lies in the heart of the wide expanse of the Southland Plains to the east of the Ōreti or New River some north of Bluff, which is the southernmost town in the South Island. Southland, New Zealand
Southland ( mi, Murihiku) is New Zealand's southernmost region. It consists mainly of the southwestern portion of the South Island and Stewart Island/Rakiura. It includes Southland District, Gore District and the city of Invercargill. The region covers over 3.1 million hectares and spans over 3,400 km of coast. State Highway 98 (New Zealand)
State Highway 98 (SH 98) is a New Zealand State Highway connecting the settlements of Lorneville (on just north of Invercargill) and Dacre (on ) in the Southland region. Also known as Lorne Dacre Road, the highway was gazetted in 1997 and provides an indirect northern bypass of the city of Invercargill. The road is very flat and passes through primarily prime agricultural land. One locality, Rakahouka, lies halfway along the route. Beyond Lorneville, SH 98 is renumbered as and becomes part of the Southern Scenic Route as it continues towards Wallacetown and Riverton. State Highway 99 (New Zealand)
State Highway 99 (SH 99) is a New Zealand state highway which runs along the southern coastline of the South Island connecting the settlements of Clifden and Lorneville, near Invercargill, via the major town of Riverton in the Southland region. The road is important both as a freight route, especially for logging and agricultural purposes, and as a tourist route; the entire length of the highway is part of the Southern Scenic Route as it provides access to southern parts of Fiordland National Park. Wallacetown
Wallacetown is a small town in Southland, in the South Island of New Zealand. Wallacetown is to the west of Invercargill, on high ground between the Makarewa and Ōreti rivers, near the Ōreti's estuary. Both rivers are popular for trout and whitebait fishing. It is considered to be a satellite town of Invercargill. It is served by State Highway 99, which skirts the town's northern edge. Demographics Wallacetown is described as a rural settlement by Statistics New Zealand. It covers , and is part of the much larger Wallacetown statistical area. Makarewa
Makarewa is a small community north of Invercargill (the southernmost city in the South Island within Southland of New Zealand). History Makarewa was formerly the junction of two branch line railways, where the Tuatapere Branch diverged from the Kingston Branch. A third line, the Ohai Branch, left the Tuatapere Branch in Thornbury. On 15 January 1978, the Tuatapere Branch closed beyond Thornbury, and on 13 December 1982, the Kingston Branch closed beyond Makarewa. The line through Makarewa has since been incorporated into the Ohai Branch and only freight services operate. Local resident Tegan Brown has been furiously campaigning to set up and gain the mayoralty of the Makarewa area for over 12 months.
