Lorne Argyle Campbell
Lorne Argyle Campbell (March 5, 1871 – April 9, 1947https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/108388103/lorne-argyll-campbell) was a businessman and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Rossland City from 1912 to 1916 in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Conservative. Biography He was born in Perth, Ontario, the son of John G. Campbell and Helen Gray Murdoch, and was educated at Perth Collegiate. He was first employed with Edison General Electric in Toronto in 1889. In 1891, he was hired by Canadian General Electric; he became chief engineer for the company in 1896. In 1898, he went to British Columbia after being hired by West Kootenay Power and Light Co. In 1903, Campbell married Mary Spahr Hosier. He was president of Cascade Power and Light Co. and of McGillivray Creek Coal & Coke Ltd. of Alberta. Perth, Ontario
Perth is a town in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Tay River, southwest of Ottawa, and is the seat of Lanark County. History The town was established as a military settlement in 1816, shortly after the War of 1812. The settlement of Lanark County began in 1815. In that year "the Settlement forming on the Rideau River" as it was officially referred to (and which soon became known as "Perth Military Settlement") began to function under Military direction. The settlement was named Perth in honour of acting Governor-General Sir Gordon Drummond, whose ancestral home was Perthshire. Rossland, British Columbia
Rossland is in the West Kootenay region of south central British Columbia. High in the Monashee Mountains, the city lies immediately east of the intersections of BC highways British Columbia Highway 3B, 3B and British Columbia Highway 22, 22. The facilities provide a winter base for the nearby multi-peak skiing, ski hills of the Red Mountain Resort. In the non-winter months Rossland is frequented by mountain bikers, with golf and fishing options nearby as well. Name origin The Sinixt First Nation called the Rossland area ''kEluwi'sst'' or ''kmarkn''. As to the word meanings, suggestions have included an "important temporary camp" or "up in the hills" for the former, and "smooth top" for the latter, referring to Red Mountain. Once mining claims were staked, the area became known as Trail Creek camp, the creek name derived from the Dewdney Trail. The Conservative Party of British Columbia is a provincial political party in British Columbia, Canada. In the early half of the 20th century, the Conservatives competed with the British Columbia Liberal Party for power in the province. Since the 1950s however, the party has had only a minor presence, not having elected a member of the Legislative Assembly (or MLA) in a general election since 1975. The last sitting MLA for the Conservatives was John van Dongen, who briefly crossed the floor to the party in 2012 before leaving to sit as an independent. William David Willson
William David Willson (April 27, 1865 – March 4, 1932) was a political figure in British Columbia. He represented Rossland from 1916 to 1920 in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Liberal. He was the son of David William Willson and the former Sarah Ann Flett, having been born in 1865 in Milton, Canada West. Willson was mayor of Rossland from 1914 to 1916.
