Lorna Maloney
Lorna Maloney (born 28 February 1961) is a South African politician and businesswoman from the North West. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2009. Life and career Maloney was born on 28 February 1961. She was elected to the National Assembly in South Africa's first post-apartheid elections in 1994. She gained re-election in 1999 and 2004, representing the North West constituency from 2004 onwards. She left Parliament after the 2009 general election. While in Parliament, Maloney acquired a substantial stake in Wesizwe Platinum, a platinum mining company founded in the North West in 2004. In 2007, she held 12.25 million shares in the company, worth about R113 million in total; '' Destiny'' estimated that this made her among the richest women in South Africa. The African National Congress (ANC) is a Social democracy, social-democratic political party in Republic of South Africa, South Africa. South African Rand
The South African rand, or simply the rand, ( sign: R; code: ZAR) is the official currency of the Southern African Common Monetary Area: South Africa, Namibia (alongside the Namibian dollar), Lesotho (alongside the Lesotho loti) and Eswatini (alongside the Swazi lilangeni). It is subdivided into 100 cents (sign: "c"). Hlomane Chauke
Hlomane Patrick Chauke is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2010 and later from 2016 to 2019. In the interim, he served in the North West Provincial Legislature from 2010 to 2014, including as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports, Arts and Culture from November 2010 to May 2012 under Premier Thandi Modise. He failed to gain re-election to the National Assembly in the 2019 general election. Early life and activism Chauke grew up in Swartruggens in present-day North West province and he was active in anti-apartheid activism in Soweto in the 1980s. 2021 South African Municipal Elections
The 2021 South African municipal elections were held on 1 November 2021, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supported the date postponement while the Democratic Alliance (DA) was against the postponement of the date. History Ndalo Media was a pioneering print and digital media company that owned and published Destiny and Destiny Man magazines. It was founded by Khanyi Dhlomo in partnership with Media24 (under Naspers) and published the first issue of Destiny in October 2007.
