Loren Schweninger
Loren Lance Schweninger (born January 7, 1942) is a history professor emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an author. He has written books on African American history including James T. Rapier and African American property owners in the South. In 2019, his book on freedom suits was published. Freedom Suits
Freedom suits were lawsuits in the Thirteen Colonies and the United States filed by slaves against slaveholders to assert claims to freedom, often based on descent from a free maternal ancestor, or time held as a resident in a free state or territory. The right to petition for freedom descended from English common law and allowed people to challenge their enslavement or indenture. Petitioners challenged slavery both directly and indirectly, even if slaveholders generally viewed such petitions as a means to uphold rather than undermine slavery. Beginning with the colonies in North America, legislatures enacted slave laws that created a legal basis for "just subjection;" these were adopted or updated by the state and territorial legislatures that superseded them after the United States gained independence. Charlie Rose
Charles Peete Rose Jr. (born January 5, 1942) is an American former television journalist and talk show host. From 1991 to 2017, he was the host and executive producer of the talk show '' Charlie Rose'' on PBS and Bloomberg LP. Rose also co-anchored ''CBS This Morning'' from 2012 to 2017 alongside Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell. Rose formerly substituted for the anchor of the ''CBS Evening News''. Rose, along with Lara Logan, hosted the revived CBS classic ''Person to Person'', a news program during which celebrities are interviewed in their homes, originally hosted from 1953 to 1961 by Edward R.
