Loren Oldenburg
Loren Oldenburg (born September 8, 1965) is an American politician, currently serving in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Vernon County, Crawford County, and the southern half of Monroe County. A Republican, he was first elected in 2018. Biography Oldenburg was born in Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin. A fourth generation farmer, he was raised and still resides on a 315-acre farm in Vernon County passed down from his great grandfather. Oldenburg graduated from Viroqua High School in 1984 and the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. He was active within his community, as a member and president of the Westby Cooperative Creamery, and, for the last 19 years, as a member and president of the Chaseburg Cenex Cooperative. He was elected to the Town Board of Harmony, Vernon County, and served as the Town Board Chairman. Wisconsin's 96th Assembly District
The 96th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in western Wisconsin, the district comprises all of Crawford County and nearly all of Vernon County, as well as most of the southern half of Monroe County. It includes the cities of Prairie du Chien, Viroqua, and Westby, and the villages of Cashton, Chaseburg, Coon Valley, De Soto, Eastman, Ferryville, Gays Mills, Genoa, Kendall, La Farge, Melvina, Mount Sterling, Norwalk, Oakdale, Soldiers Grove, Wauzeka, and Wilton. Harmony is a town in Vernon County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 739 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Newton is located in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 42.9 square miles (111.1 km2), all of it land. Demographics As of the census of 2010, there were 755 people, 266 households, and 208 families residing in the town. The population density was 17.2 people per square mile (6.7/km2). There were 308 housing units at an average density of 6.5 per square mile (2.5/km2). 2018 Wisconsin State Assembly Election
The Wisconsin State Assembly elections of 2018 were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly were up for election. The Republican Party maintained a majority it has held since 2011, winning 63 seats, a loss of one seat, and 44.75% of the voting share. Despite winning a majority of ballots cast, the Democratic Party won only 36 seats, thus remaining a minority and gaining just one seat from the Republicans, district 14. Democratic votes were concentrated in urban areas such as Milwaukee and Madison, while Republicans garnered votes in more rural areas, which has been widely attributed to the impact of gerrymandering in the post-2010 state redistricting.2/ Based on the 2018 results, the tipping point district was District 29, which the Republicans won by a margin of 12.12%, therefore Democrats would have needed to win the statewide popular vote by a margin of 20.36% to win a majority of seats.
