Lore Agnes (4 June 1876, Bochum, Westphalia – 9 June 1953, Cologne) was a German politician. A house-wife from Düsseldorf, Agnes was a leading figure in the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the socialist women's movement in the city. Lore Verne Bader (April 27, 1888 – June 2, 1973) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the New York Giants (1912) and Boston Red Sox (1917–1918). Bader batted left-handed and threw right-handed. He was born in Bader, Illinois. In a three-season career, Bader posted a 5-3 record with 27 strikeouts and a 2.51 ERA in 75.1 innings pitched. Career In 1912 Bader pitched in two games for the New York Giants. In his debut, on September 30, he pitched a complete game, 4–2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies and their staff ace Grover Cleveland Alexander, foiling Alexander's bid for his 20th victory of the season. In 1939 she entered the University of Basel. During World War II served in the army. Lore Lorentz (12 September 1920 – 22 February 1994) was a German Kabarett artist and standup comedian. She was born in Mährisch-Ostrau, Czechoslovakia (today Ostrava in the Czech Republic) as Lore Schirmer. She studied history, German literature and philosophy in Berlin and Vienna. In Berlin she met , who became her husband in 1944. Together they founded the Kabarett Kom(m)ödchen in Düsseldorf in 1947. It was one of the first political cabarets in Allied-occupied Germany after the Second World War. Until 1983 Lore and Kay Lorentz were directors of the Kommödchen and part of the ensemble. Starting in 1976, she taught chanson, song and musical at Folkwang Hochschule. From 1983, she started with solo programs. One of her most famous programs consisted exclusively of texts written by Heinrich Heine; even though he had written them more than a century before Lorentz' program was performed, they all referred to current topics. Lore Alford Rogers (7 February 1875 - 21 March 1975) was an American bacteriologist and dairy scientist. He is credited with discovering that butter made from pasteurized sweet cream remained fresher than that made from sour ripened cream, while suggesting that surplus milk could still be sold as concentrated sour milk products. He refined the steps for manufacture of high quality Swiss cheese and, new to the United States, production of Roquefort cheese. He was instrumental in finding ways to discourage fungal growth in sweetened condensed milk and preventing losses in evaporated milk from heat coagulation. Rogers' pioneering work on freeze drying bacterial cultures had immediate applications in World War I. Her novel ''Shakespeare's Kitchen'' was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2008. Early life An only child, Segal was born in Vienna, Austria, into a middle-class Jewish family.
