Lord Of Meirás
Lord of Meirás ( es, Señor de Meirás) was a hereditary title in the Peerage of Spain accompanied by the dignity of Grandee, granted in 1975 by Juan Carlos I to Carmen Polo y Martínez-Valdés, First Lady of Spain between 1939 and 1975 and wife of Francisco Franco. The title makes reference to the Pazo de Meirás, summer home of Franco in Galicia. Juan Carlos I (;, * ca, Joan Carles I, * gl, Xoán Carlos I, Juan Carlos Alfonso Víctor María de Borbón y Borbón-Dos Sicilias, born 5 January 1938) is a member of the Spanish royal family who reigned as King of Spain from 22 November 1975 until his abdication on 19 June 2014. Francisco de Asís "Francis" Franco y Martínez-Bordiú, 11th Marquis of Villaverde (born 9 December 1954), is a Spanish aristocrat and manager of several business associations. Besides his real estate businesses, he owns many parking spaces in Madrid. He is the grandson of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. Grandees Of Spain
Grandees of Spain ( es, Grandes de España) are the highest-ranking members of the Spanish nobility. They comprise nobles who hold the most important historical landed titles in Spain or its former colonies. Many such hereditary titles are held by heads of families, having been acquired via strategic marriages between landed families. All Grandees, of which there were originally three ranks, are now deemed to be of equal status (''i.e. "of the first class"''); this designation is nowadays titular, conveying neither power nor legal privileges. Duke of Franco ( es, Duque de Franco) was a hereditary title in the Spanish nobility. The title was created in 1975 by King Juan Carlos and bestowed upon Carmen Franco, the daughter and only child of Spain's ''Caudillo'', General Francisco Franco. Spanish nobles are persons who possess the legal status of hereditary nobility according to the laws and traditions of the Spanish monarchy and historically also those who held personal nobility as bestowed by one of the three highest orders of knighthood of the Kingdom, namely the Order of the Golden Fleece, the Order of Charles III and the Order of Isabella the Catholic. The Democratic Memory Law is a law in Spain which came into effect in October 2022, concerning the legacy of Francoist Spain. Background After the death of Francisco Franco in 1975, the Spanish transition to democracy saw the birth of the Pact of Forgetting, where both leftist and rightist parties of Spain decided to avoid confronting directly the legacy of Francoism.
