Lord Haliburton Of Dirleton
Lord Haliburton of Dirleton (or ''Dirletoun'') was a Scottish Lordship of Parliament created ''circa.'' 1450 for Sir Walter de Haliburton, Lord High Treasurer of Scotland. The seat of Lord Haliburton was at Dirleton Castle in present-day East Lothian. The last Haliburton of Direleton was Patrick, 6th Lord Haliburton, died c. 1506. George Haliburton, 4th Lord Haliburton Of Dirleton
George Haliburton, 4th Lord Haliburton of Dirleton (died before 1492), was a Scottish Lord of Parliament. George was the son of John, 2nd Lord Haliburton and Margaret Hepburn, daughter of Patrick Hepburn of Dunsyre. George Haliburton joined with his East Lothian neighbour and kinsman Patrick Hepburn, Lord Hailes, in the rebellion against James III of Scotland which culminated in the king's death at the battle of Sauchieburn in 1488. In 1474, George resigned his title to his eldest son Archibald, who had married Helen 'Ellen' Schaw or Shaw, daughter of James Schaw of Sauchie, keeper of Stirling Castle. They were the parents of one son, James Halyburton. Archibald died at the battle of Sauchieburn, and his widow Helen 'Ellen' Shaw next married Sir Patrick Hume, the 2nd Baron Hume of Polwarth, and by him had additional issue. James Balfour Paul
Sir James Balfour Paul (16 November 1846 – 15 September 1931) was the Lord Lyon King of Arms, the officer responsible for heraldry in Scotland, from 1890 until the end of 1926. Life Paul was born in Edinburgh, the second son of the Rev John Paul of St Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh and Margaret Balfour (granddadughter of James Balfour of Pilrig), at their home, 13 George Square, Edinburgh. His great-grandfather was Sir William Moncreiff, 7th Baronet. He was educated at Royal High School and University of Edinburgh. He was admitted an advocate in 1870. Thereafter, he was Registrar of Friendly Societies (1879–1890), Treasurer of the Faculty of Advocates (1883–1902), and appointed Lord Lyon King of Arms in 1890. William Ruthven, 1st Earl of Gowrie, 4th Lord of Ruthven (c. 1541May 1584) was a Scottish peer known for devising the Raid of Ruthven. Life and career William Ruthven was born in 1541 in Ruthven Castle, in Perthshire, Scotland, the son of Patrick Ruthven, 3rd Lord Ruthven and Janet Douglas. On 23 August 1581, he was named Earl of Gowrie by James VI of Scotland. He and his father had both been involved in the murder of David Rizzio in 1566; and both took an active part on the side of the Kirk in the constant intrigues and factions among the Scottish nobility of the period. William had been the custodian of Mary, Queen of Scots, during her imprisonment in Loch Leven Castle, where, according to the queen, he had pestered her with amorous attentions. Patrick Ruthven, 3rd Lord Ruthven
Patrick Ruthven, 3rd Lord Ruthven (c. 1520 – 13 June 1566) played an important part in the political intrigues of the 16th century Scotland. He succeeded to the lordship in December 1552. The Ruthven lordship encompassed the offices of Provost and Constable of Perth, and Sheriff of Strathearn.
