Lord And Lady Algy (film)
''Lord and Lady Algy'' is a lost 1919 American silent comedy film directed by Harry Beaumont and starring Tom Moore, Naomi Childers, and Frank Leigh. It is based on a play of the same name by R.C. Carton. The film's sets were designed by the art director Hugo Ballin. Plot As described in a film magazine, Lord Algy (Moore) is addicted to betting, which causes an estrangement with his wife, Lady Algy (Childers). They part under an informal arrangement, although each continues to admire the other. Lord Algy determines to retrench his fortune by backing a certain horse in a race. Lady Algy, knowing the horse cannot win, makes friends with Jethroe (Stuart) to get a tip on the race, hoping to win enough to recoup her husband's losses. Mrs. Tudway (Ballin), wife of a friend of Lord Algy, plans to run away with another man. Harry Beaumont
Harry Beaumont (10 February 1888 – 22 December 1966) was an American film director, actor, and screenwriter. He worked for a variety of production companies including 20th Century Fox, Fox, Goldwyn Pictures Corporation, Goldwyn, Metro Pictures Corporation, Metro, Warner Brothers, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Career Beaumont's greatest successes were during the silent film era, when he directed films including John Barrymore's ''Beau Brummel (1924 film), Beau Brummel'' (1924) and the silent youth movie ''Our Dancing Daughters'' (1928), featuring Joan Crawford. He then directed MGM's first talkie musical, ''The Broadway Melody'' (1929). The latter film won the Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Picture Academy Award that year, and Beaumont was nominated for Academy Award for Best Director, Best Director. Jack Duffy (actor)
Jack Duffy (September 4, 1882 – July 23, 1939) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 80 films between 1916 and 1937, usually looking older than his age with his make-up. He acted in a series of silent shorts for the Christie Film Company, a pioneering movie studio that specialized in producing situational comedies, but also appeared in some Buster Keaton comedies. When his acting career declined in the early 1930s, he continued to work in his dual capacity of make-up artist. Duffy was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and died in Hollywood, California Hollywood is a neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California. Herbert Standing (13 November 1846 – 5 December 1923) was a British stage and screen actor and the patriarch of the Standing family of actors. He was the father of numerous children, many of whom had careers in theatre and cinema. Toward the end of his life, he appeared in many Hollywood silent films.
