Loon Lake (band)
Loon Lake was an indie rock band based in Melbourne, consisting of brothers Sam Nolan (lead vocals, guitar), Simon Nolan (guitar, vocals), and Nick Nolan (guitars, production), as well as Tim Lowe (bass), and Ricky (drums). The band released two EPs, 2011's ''Not Just Friends'' and 2012's ''Thirty Three'', the latter of which saw single "Cherry Lips" peak at No. 19 on the ARIA Australian Artists Singles Chart. In 2013, Loon Lake was named one of Triple J magazine's "50 Acts that Matter Right Now". The band released their debut album, ''Gloamer'', on 11 October 2013. They self-released their second and final studio album ''Low Res'' in October 2015. The band announced in August 2015 that they would disband at the conclusion of their Final Wave Tour, which ended in November 2015. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". The Grates were an Australian indie rock band that formed in Brisbane, Queensland in 2002. They were brought to national attention in 2004 when a demo of their single "Trampoline" received airplay on radio station Triple J. Their first two albums, ''Gravity Won't Get You High'' (2006) and ''Teeth Lost, Hearts Won'' (2008), both reached the ARIA Albums Chart top 10. Southbound was an arts, camping and music festival. A variety of Australian and international artists performed at this event. The festival occurred annually around New Years, at the Sir Stewart Bovell Park in Busselton, Western Australia. History Southbound began as a single day music festival in 2005, located at Sir Stewart Bovell Park in Busselton, Western Australia. In 2006 the event expanded, allowing festival-goers to camp on the festival grounds. Big Day Out
The Big Day Out (BDO) was an annual music festival that was held in five Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide, and Perth, as well as Auckland, New Zealand. The festival was held during summer, typically in January of each year but was sometimes held as late as early February in some cities including Perth. The event was conceptualised after the Violent Femmes announced a tour of Australia. Promoters Ken West and Vivian Lees sought another act as middle-level support for the band's tour. They succeeded in securing Nirvana to play the Sydney leg at the Hordern Pavilion. The Triple J Hottest 100 is an annual music listener poll hosted by the publicly-funded, national Australian youth radio station, Triple J. A riff is a repeated chord progression or refrain in music (also known as an ostinato figure in classical music); it is a pattern, or melody, often played by the rhythm section instruments or solo instrument, that forms the basis or accompaniment of a musical composition. Though riffs are most often found in rock music, heavy metal music, Latin, funk, and jazz, classical music is also sometimes based on a riff, such as Ravel's Boléro. Riffs can be as simple as a tenor saxophone honking a simple, catchy rhythmic figure, or as complex as the riff-based variations in the head arrangements played by the Count Basie Orchestra. Power pop (also typeset as powerpop) is a form of pop rock based on the early music of bands such as the Who, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Byrds.
