State Route 292 (SR 292) is a state highway located entirely in Stevens County, Washington, United States. The east–west highway connects SR 231 in Springdale to U.S. Route 395 (US 395) at Loon Lake. It is approximately long and follows Sheep Creek and a railroad. The highway was built in the early 20th century along the Spokane Falls and Northern Railway and was incorporated into the Inland Empire Highway in 1913. It later became part of US 395 until it was realigned in 1959 to bypass Springdale. The former highway became a branch of Secondary State Highway 3J (SSH 3J), which was renumbered to SR 292 in 1964. Springdale, Washington
Springdale is a town in Stevens County, Washington, United States. The population was 285 at the 2010 census. History The present site of Springdale was a wilderness until about 1886, when Mr. John Shriner and Mr. Charles O. Squire arrived at about the same time. Squire erected the first sawmill in 1887.History of Springdale as compiled by Mrs. B. V. Fleming and Mrs. C. O. Snapp) Once Mr. Squire finalized his homestead, he platted the area on 29 November 1889, which he called Squire City. Loon Lake was named for the wild loons near the water. Details Loon Lake is a popular destination for water-based recreation including swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, sailing, water skiing and jet-skiing. Its shores are lined with numerous cabins. The cabins are used primarily as weekend retreats and vacation cottages, but some are occupied year-round. An unofficial boat parade occurs every 4th of July, wherein lake residents and visitors decorate their boats and move in procession around the edge of the lake. Area code 509 is the telephone area code for the eastern two-thirds of the state of Washington. The western boundary of 509 roughly follows the Cascades. The 509 area code includes Spokane, the Tri-Cities ( Richland, Pasco, and Kennewick), Ellensburg, Yakima, Walla Walla, and Wenatchee.
