Visual Perception
Visual perception is the ability to interpret the surrounding environment through photopic vision (daytime vision), color vision, scotopic vision (night vision), and mesopic vision (twilight vision), using light in the visible spectrum reflected by objects in the environment. This is different from visual acuity, which refers to how clearly a person sees (for example "20/20 vision"). A person can have problems with visual perceptual processing even if they have 20/20 vision. The resulting perception is also known as vision, sight, or eyesight (adjectives ''visual'', ''optical'', and ''ocular'', respectively). The various physiological components involved in vision are referred to collectively as the visual system, and are the focus of much research in linguistics, psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, and molecular biology, collectively referred to as vision science. Visual system In humans and a number of other mammals, light enters the eye through the cornea and is ...

The Look
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things that are already or about to be mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with nouns of any gender. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of the archaic pron ...

Gaze
In critical theory, sociology, and psychoanalysis, the gaze (French ''le regard''), in the philosophical and figurative sense, is an individual's (or a group's) awareness and perception of other individuals, other groups, or oneself. The concept and the social applications of the gaze have been defined and explained by existentialist and phenomenologist philosophers. Jean-Paul Sartre described the gaze (or "the look") in ''Being and Nothingness'' (1943). Michel Foucault, in '' Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison'' (1975), developed the concept of the gaze to illustrate the dynamics of socio-political power relations and the social dynamics of society's mechanisms of discipline. Jacques Derrida, in ''The Animal that Therefore I Am (More to Come)'' (1997), elaborated upon the inter-species relations that exist among human beings and other animals, which are established by way of the gaze. Psychoanalysis In Lacanian psychoanalytic theory, Lacan's view on the gaze change ...

LOOK Algorithm
LOOK is a disk scheduling algorithm used to determine the order in which new disk read and write requests are processed. Description The LOOK algorithm is the same as the SCAN algorithm in that it also honors requests on both sweep direction of the disk head, however, this algorithm "Looks" ahead to see if there are any requests pending in the direction of head movement. If no requests are pending in the direction of head movement, then the disk head traversal will be reversed to the opposite direction and requests on the other direction can be served. In LOOK scheduling, the arm goes only as far as final requests in each direction and then reverses direction without going all the way to the end. Consider an example, Given a disk with 200 cylinders (0-199), suppose we have 8 pending requests: 98, 183, 37, 122, 14, 124, 65, 67 and that the read/write head is currently at cylinder 53. In order to complete these requests, the arm will move in the increasing order first and then will ...

Adventures In Rock & Pop Fashion
An adventure is an exciting experience or undertaking that is typically bold, sometimes risky. Adventures may be activities with danger such as traveling, exploring, skydiving, mountain climbing, scuba diving, river rafting, or other extreme sports. Adventures are often undertaken to create psychological arousal or in order to achieve a greater goal, such as the pursuit of knowledge that can only be obtained by such activities. Motivation Adventurous experiences create psychological arousal, which can be interpreted as negative (e.g. fear) or positive (e.g. flow). For some people, adventure becomes a major pursuit in and of itself. According to adventurer André Malraux, in his ''Man's Fate'' (1933), "If a man is not ready to risk his life, where is his dignity?". Similarly, Helen Keller stated that "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." Outdoor adventurous activities are typically undertaken for the purposes of recreation or excitement: examples are adventure racin ...

No Way (album)
''No Way'' is the second album by Run On, released in 1997 through Matador Records. Critical reception ''Tucson Weekly'' called the album "phenomenal," writing that "Run On delivers avant-garde pop of a ... dark sensibility with a sophisticated, technically educated and carefully orchestrated approach." ''The Austin Chronicle'' praised the "lo-fi production, mudfuzz guitar with tom-tom driven Delta rhythms, graveyard violin, and Sue Garner's dusty-road clarion call (hubby Rick Brown and guitarist Alan Licht also sing), all wrapped around hooky pop songs." ''Guitar Player'' wrote that Alan Licht surrounds Garner's vocals "with ominous clouds of droning feedback, supporting the song's melodic flow for two or three verses before unleashing a short, furious storm of groans, squeals and rapid-fire hammer-ons." The ''Pittsburgh Post-Gazette'' wrote that the "nine originals panthe indie-pop spectrum from the impossibly quirky 'As Good As New' to the heartbreaking violin-fueled lament ...
