Longueuil () is a city in the province of Quebec, Canada. It is the seat of the Montérégie, Montérégie administrative region and the central city of the urban agglomeration of Longueuil. It sits on the South Shore (Montreal), south shore of the Saint Lawrence River directly across from Montreal. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census totalled 239,700, making it Montreal's second largest suburb, the fifth most populous city in Quebec and List of the largest municipalities in Canada by population, twentieth largest in Canada. Charles le Moyne de Longueuil et de Châteauguay, Charles Le Moyne founded Longueuil as a ''Seigneurial system of New France, seigneurie'' in 1657. Urban Agglomeration Of Longueuil
The urban agglomeration of Longueuil was created on January 1, 2006 as a result of the de-amalgamation process brought upon by the Charest government. It encompasses all the boroughs that were merged into the previous city of Longueuil and still retains the same area as that mega-city. The urban agglomeration of Longueuil is coextensive with the territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Longueuil, whose geographical code is 58. In 2012, Longueuil mayor Caroline St-Hilaire proposed that the Urban agglomeration of Longueuil leave the Montérégie and become its own administrative region. Parc De La Cité
Parc de la Cité, is a large park in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. It is located at 6205 Davis Boulevard in the borough of Saint-Hubert. Geography This park is located between boulevard Gaétan Boucher and rue des Orchidées; between boulevard Julien Bouthillier and boulevard Cousineau. Laflèche, Quebec
Laflèche (originally known as Mackayville) is a neighbourhood in the Saint-Hubert borough of the city of Longueuil. Neighbourhood Laflèche is primarily a densely populated residential neighbourhood. It is largely low-income, and similar to Ville LeMoyne and other parts of the Le Vieux-Longueuil borough. Most buildings in the area are single-family homes, but there are also many small apartment buildings scattered throughout the neighbourhood. Boulevard Taschereau, Boulevard Édouard and Chemin de la Grande Allée are the main arteries in Laflèche, and all three feature numerous businesses. Laflèche is reputed for its small house built with tar up planks taken from the rail industry. A good proportion of the first inhabitants of the neighbourhood worked at the Canadian National plant in Pointe-Saint-Charles, which made it easier for workers to carry large pieces of wood in Laflèche to build houses. Parc Michel-Chartrand, formerly known as the Parc régional de Longueuil, is a large park located in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. It is located at 1895 Rue Adoncour in the borough of Le Vieux-Longueuil. Jacques-Cartier (Longueuil)
Ville Jacques-Cartier was a city located on the south shore of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was named after the founder of New France, Jacques Cartier. Now a defunct city, its former territory makes up a third of the city of Longueuil and more than 80% of Le Vieux-Longueuil borough. History Created at the same time as Mackayville in 1947, the land of Jacques-Cartier corresponded to what had been left of the St-Antoine de Longueuil Parish after Longueuil, Saint-Lambert, Saint-Hubert, Montréal-Sud, Greenfield Park and Mackayville seceded from the parish. Le Moyne (also known as Ville Le Moyne, formerly known as LeMoyne) is a neighbourhood in Longueuil, Quebec, part of the borough of Le Vieux-Longueuil, and a former city. Boisé Du Tremblay
The Boisé du Tremblay is a wooded area in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. The wooded area is located partially in the borough of Le Vieux-Longueuil and partially within the city of Boucherville. The territory of the woods is , of which belongs to the City of Longueuil. The Boisé du Tremblay's biodiversity is considered to be unique within the Montérégie region. It is part of the blue-green infrastructure of Greater Montreal as well as the Mont Saint-Bruno Forest Corridor. It is home to numerous species of flora and fauna, notably the Western chorus frog. Le Vieux-Longueuil is a borough in the city of Longueuil. From 2002 to 2006, Le Vieux-Longueuil borough stood for what used to be the city of Longueuil from 1969 to 2002. The former city of Longueuil was composed of 3 cities merged in the 1960s: Ville Jacques-Cartier, Montréal-Sud and Longueuil. Since 2006, Le Vieux-Longueuil borough stands for the combination of the former city of Longueuil and LeMoyne. LeMoyne joined Le Vieux-Longueuil borough when Saint-Lambert left the city of Longueuil in 2006. Canada Post uses "Longueuil" only on addresses that are located within the former city of Longueuil.
