Longueau–Boulogne Railway
The Longueau–Boulogne railway is a French railway which runs from a junction with the Paris-Lille railway at Longueau to the coastal port of Boulogne. A double track railway it is long. Until the start of the Eurostar service from London to Paris in 1994 via LGV Nord it was the main route for the boat trains to Paris which met the ships carrying passengers from Great Britain. the line is used by Intercités services from Paris to Boulogne, TGV services from Rang-du-Fliers via Calais-Fréthun to Lille-Europe and local TER Hauts-de-France services. The line was built by Compagnie des chemins de fer du Nord during 1847 and 1848. The section from Longueau through Amiens and to the junction with the line to Rouen is electrified at 25 kV 50 Hz. Railway Lines In Hauts-de-France
Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. In contrast to road transport, where the vehicles run on a prepared flat surface, rail vehicles (rolling stock) are directionally guided by the tracks on which they run. TER-GV
TER-GV, a portmanteau of TER (French Regional Train) and TGV (high-speed train), are regional TGV linking relatively nearby cities (termini being 100–200 km apart) using the LGV Nord dedicated high-speed line (Paris-Lille-Calais). So far, those trains only operate in the Hauts-de-France region. Lille-Europe station (French: ''Gare de Lille-Europe'') is a SNCF railway station in Lille, France, on the LGV Nord high-speed railway. The station is primarily used for international Eurostar and long-distance SNCF TGV services, although some high-speed regional trains also call at the station. The station was built in 1993 to be used as a through station for trains between the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as well as French TGV services, except those coming from Paris which normally terminate at Lille-Flandres. There is a walking distance between the two stations, which are also adjacent stops on the Lille Metro. Rang-du-Fliers () is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography Rang-du-Fliers is located on the Côte d'Opale (the Opal Coast), 4 miles (6 km) from the beach and 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Montreuil-sur-Mer on the D917 road. Rang-du-Fliers station has rail connections to Calais, Boulogne, Amiens and Paris. History Rang-du-Fliers became a commune in 1870, having been previously only a hamlet of Verton. The population of this hamlet lived poorly amid the marshes and fields that had formed over the centuries behind the dunes. Boatmen, weavers, labourers and a few tenants occupying the cob houses built on land by the edge of the many drainage ditches. "Rang" comes from ''Rin'' meaning canal or "Tringue" a drainage trench (this term is still found in Great Tringue, north of the town), and closely related to the English rhyne. Intercités (before September 2009: ''Corail Intercités'') is a brand name used by France’s national railway company, SNCF, to denote non high speed services on the 'classic' network in France. SNCF established the Intercités brand in January 2006 to capture the remaining, mainly medium distance network of Corail (train), Corail trains, so called because they use the air-conditioned fleet of 'Corail' coaches introduced by SNCF from 1975. Intercités covers all the important SNCF routes not served by the TGV network. The Ligne à Grande Vitesse Nord (North High-Speed Line), typically shortened to LGV Nord, is a French -long high-speed rail line, opened in 1993, that connects Paris to the Belgian border and the Channel Tunnel via Lille. With a maximum speed of , the line appreciably shortened rail journeys between Paris and Lille.
