Longreach Shire Council
The Shire of Longreach was a local government area located in central western Queensland, centred on the town of Longreach, from which the shire was administered. It covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1900 until 2008, when it amalgamated with the Shires of Ilfracombe and Isisford to form the Longreach Region. History The Longreach Division was created on 9 May 1900 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1887'', out of part of the Aramac Division. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', Longreach Division became the Shire of Longreach on 31 March 1903. On 15 March 2008, under the ''Local Government (Reform Implementation) Act 2007'' passed by the Parliament of Queensland on 10 August 2007, the Shire of Longreach merged with the Shires of Ilfracombe and Isisford to form the Longreach Region. Australian Stockman's Hall Of Fame
The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame is a museum located in Longreach, Queensland, Australia, which pays tribute to pioneers of the Australian outback. The centre is also dedicated to Australian stockmen who have shown bravery and courage. The founder of the Hall of Fame was artist Hugh Sawrey, a well-known painter and former stockman, who had the name registered in 1974, put up the initial funding, and enlisted supporters. His vision was to create a memorial to the explorers, overlanders, pioneers and settlers of outback Australia. This dream was shared by other outstanding Australians, including the legendary R. M. Williams. Longreach was chosen as the location because of its historical role as a stock route junction and because of its current transport links. Morella was a rural Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality within Longreach Region, Queensland, Australia. Since January 2019, it has been amalgamated into the locality of Longreach, Queensland, Longreach. Geography The Landsborough Highway passed from south-east to north-west through the locality. History Morella railway station () on the Central Western railway line, Queensland, Central Western railway line was named by the Queensland Railways Department on 7 August 1925. It is an Aboriginal word meaning ''small hill.'' Morella Post Office opened on 1 July 1927 and closed in 1979. Town lots were sold in November 1948 centred on . Arrilalah is a ghost town in the locality of Longreach in the Longreach Region of Western Queensland, Australia. History The site was originally settled in the 1860s with the name "Forest Grove", but the name was changed to Arrilalah, a word with an uncertain origin, in 1885. The Qantas Founders Outback Museum is a museum located in Longreach, Queensland, Australia. The museum was opened on 9 June 1996 in the heritage-listed Qantas Hangar, built by Qantas in 1922. Stage 2 of the Qantas Founders Museum was part of a 1999 A$110 million Queensland and federal government project, the heritage trails network. The Qantas Founders Museum is located from Winton, Queensland, the original home of Qantas. The Museum tells the history of Australia's national airline Qantas, from its early beginnings in Outback Queensland in the 1920s to present day. Qantas was registered on 16 November 1920 and held its first Board Meeting in Winton in 1921 where it was decided to move operations to Longreach.
