Longford, Greater Manchester
Longford is an electoral ward of Trafford, Greater Manchester, covering the Firswood area of Stretford and a small part of the Old Trafford area. It is bordered by the Clifford ward to the northeast, the Gorse Hill ward to the northwest, the Stretford ward to the southwest and Priory to the south. Longford (Trafford Council Ward)
Longford () is the county town of County Longford in Ireland. It has a population of 10,008 according to the 2016 census. It is the biggest town in the county and about one third of the county's population lives there. Longford lies at the meeting of Ireland's N4 and N5 National Primary Route roads, which means that traffic travelling between Dublin and County Mayo, or north County Roscommon passes around the town. Longford railway station, on the Dublin-Sligo line, is used heavily by commuters. History The town is built at a fording point on the banks of the River Camlin (), which is a tributary of the River Shannon. Tony Lloyd
Sir Anthony Joseph Lloyd (born 25 February 1950) is a British Labour Party politician who has discontinuously served as a Member of Parliament (MP) since 1983, currently as the MP for Rochdale since 2017. He was MP for Stretford from 1983 to 1997 and Manchester Central from 1997 to 2012. He then became Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner between 2012 and 2017, and interim Mayor of Greater Manchester between 2015 and 2017. Lloyd served as Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland between 2018 and 2020, resigning to recover from his illness of COVID-19. He was also Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland between 2019 and 2020. Born in Stretford, Lloyd served as a Trafford councillor from 1979 to 1984.
