Long Island Marathon
The Long Island Marathon is an annual marathon foot-race run on Long Island, New York, United States. The event was first run in 1973 as ''The Earth Day Marathon''. Originally the race consisted of loops around Roosevelt Raceway and Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York. Previously, the Earth Day Marathon was first pur on by the New York Road Runners and staged in Central Park in 1971 and 1972. The event was renamed the ''Long Island Marathon'' in 1978 and a half marathon was added in 1984. Over the years, there were several courses with the current one now starting within Eisenhower Park and running to Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale and finishing at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. Uniondale, New York
Uniondale is a census-designated place (CDP), as well as a suburb in Nassau County, New York, Nassau County, New York (state), New York, on Long Island, in the Town of Hempstead, New York, Town of Hempstead. Eisenhower Park
Eisenhower Park, formerly known as Salisbury Park, is a public park in East Meadow, New York bordered by Hempstead Turnpike on the south and Old Country Road on the north. At , it is larger than Central Park (in Manhattan, New York City), with much of the area devoted to three 18-hole golf courses, including the Red Course, host to the annual Commerce Bank Championship (Champions Tour). The park is home to the September 11th Memorial for residents of Nassau County. East Meadow, New York
East Meadow is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York. The population was 38,132 at the 2010 census. Many residents commute to Manhattan, which is away. History In 1655, two surveyors for Hempstead reported that the "east meadow" would be suitable for grazing. The area quickly became a grazing area for cattle and later, in the 18th century, for sheep. The sheep of the East Meadow area provided the country with more than 50% of the United States' wool needs during that time. Wantagh State Parkway
The Wantagh State Parkway is a long state parkway on Long Island, New York, in the United States. It links the Ocean Parkway in Jones Beach State Park with the Northern State Parkway in Westbury. The parkway is located approximately east of Manhattan and east of the Nassau–Queens border.
