London Senior Football Championship
The London Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic Athletic Association cup competition between the top Gaelic football clubs in London, England. The London Football championship began in 1897 with Ireland United winning the first title. Tir Chonaill Gaels have won the competition the most times (18). The 2022 Champions are St Kiernan's who beat Fulham 0-13 to 0-8 in a replay on Saturday 30 October 2022 at McGovern Park in Ruislip to retain their championship. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Neasden Gaels
Neasden Gaels GFC are a Gaelic Football team are based in Kingsbury, North London. Neasden Gaels were founded into the junior ranks of London GAA in February 1989 following a meeting between officials at McDonagh's Bar in Kingsbury, North West London. The founder members were Michael Cleary (Manchester), Roger O'Connor (Sligo), Jim Devine (Longford), Bobby Moynihan (Kerry), Claire Moynihan (London) and, of course, Danny O'Sullivan who hails from Killorglin in Kerry and Michael McDonagh, proprietor of McDonagh's Bar, Kingsbury and a native of Galway who was also appointed as Neasden's first team manager. Neasden Gaels had grown into a senior side by winning the London Intermediate Football Championship in 1996 and then winning the London Senior Football Championship in 1999 an unprecedented 10 years after the club's foundation. Impact Of The COVID-19 Pandemic On Gaelic Games
As with other sports, the COVID-19 pandemic caused disruption to Gaelic games, primarily in Ireland but also elsewhere in the world. Competitions were cancelled, postponed or restructured, while some teams were withdrawn or were unable to participate in those competitions that went ahead. The sports (football, hurling, camogie, and ladies' football) saw all competitions suspended from 12 March 2020. The National Hurling League, National Football League, National Camogie League and Ladies' National Football League, which were all running at the time, were suspended, with competitions not intended to resume until 29 March at the earliest. This proved to be an optimistic assumption. 2019 London Senior Football Championship
The 2019 London Senior Football Championship was the 116th edition of London GAA's premier gaelic football tournament for senior clubs in London. The tournament consists of 8 teams, with the winner going on to represent London in the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. Tír Chonaill Gaels were the defending champions after they defeated Fulham Irish in the previous years final after a replay. Neasden Gaels made the straight bounce back to the senior grade after just one seasons in the Intermediate grade by winning the 2018 London I.F.C. after a 2-13 to 0-13 final victory over St. Joseph's. Fulham Irish GAA Club is a Gaelic Football and Hurling Club who play on Wormwood Scrubs in West London. Fulham Irish GAA hold the unique status of being the only club in London to offer dual players Senior Football & Senior Hurling. It is a unique achievement for a Club that was established in 2006 & only formed a hurling team as recently as 2011. The Fulham Irish Hurling Team defeated Granuaille in the London Intermediate Championship Final in 2012 to gain promotion to the top tier of London Hurling. Thomas McCurtains is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Goodmayes, East London. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands).
