London Iranian Film Festival
London Iranian Film Festival is an annual, independent film festival held in London. It is the only festival in the UK that is dedicated to Iranian independent cinema. The London Iranian Film Festival is organised by a non-political, film-focused organization UKIFF, which aims to provide a platform for Iranian cinema in the UK. The Festival showcases films that consistently explore Iranian culture and identity. Submissions to the festival are looked over by a panel of filmmakers and film industry professionals, and the films selected for screening are then placed into four categories: Short film, Documentary, Animation and Feature film. Prizes are awarded to the best film from each category on the closing night of the festival. Previous selection committees have included Iranian filmmaker and scriptwriter Kambuzia Partovi, screen director Patrick Tucker, cinematographer Zoran Veljkovic, and Iranian filmmaker Mojtaba Mirtahmasb. Kambuzia Partovi
Kambuzia Partovi (also spelt Kambozia Partovi, fa, کامبوزیا پرتوی; 11 November 1955 – 24 November 2020) was an Iranian film director and screenwriter. Biography He was born in Rasht, Iran, on the Caspian Sea. After studying theater arts in school he wrote mainly scripts for TV series. In 1988 he made his feature film debut with ''Golnar''. His 2007 film '' Café Transit,'' which received the special mention at Mar del Plata film festival, was selected by Iran as its candidate for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He wrote screenplays for other directors, most notably Jafar Panahi's '' The Circle''. In 2013 he acted in and co-directed '' Closed Curtain'' with Panahi. Partovi trained and supported many Iranian artists and film makers, most notably Bahman Ghobadi. He died on 24 November 2020, of complications from COVID-19. Mojtaba Mirtahmasb ( fa, مجتبی میرطهماسب ; born in 1971) is an Iranian filmmaker and film producer. He co-directed ''This Is Not a Film'' (2011) with Jafar Panahi. Life Mirtahmasb was born in Kerman, Iran in 1971. From 1992 until 1995 he attended the University of Art “Mojtame’-e Daneshgahiyeh Honar" in Tehran, studying visual art and handicrafts. At school he was primarily interested in Shiite rituals and ceremonies, but also studied photography and filmmaking. After graduating Mirtahmasb directed nine documentaries for the Islamic Art and Material Culture of Iranian Shiism in 1996 and 1997. The subjects of these films included calico making, the art of glazing, enamel work, Islamic tile work, and Islamic needlework. The Iran Film Foundation is a non-political UK unregistered charity with a mission to promote and preserve the cinematic history of the Persian speaking world. The remit of the Foundation is specific and is only related to cinematic history, television history and the moving image. The Foundation covers the late nineteenth century to the present day. The Foundation achieves its objectives by organising and supporting lectures, cultural events and conferences, for archivists, and by supporting publications and museum programs.
