London Councils
London Councils is the local government association for Greater London, England. It is a cross-party organisation that represents London's 32 borough councils and the City of London. It was formed in 1995 as a merger of the London Boroughs Association and the Association of London Authorities. In April 2000 it gained further functions as strategic local government in London was reorganised. London Councils is a think tank and lobbying organisation, and also provides some services directly through legislation that allows multiple local authorities to pool responsibility and funding. London Fire And Emergency Planning Authority
The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) was a functional body of the Greater London Authority (GLA), established under the Greater London Authority Act 1999. Its principal purpose was to run the London Fire Brigade. The 17 members of LFEPA were appointed annually by the Mayor of London. Eight were nominated from the London Assembly, seven from the London boroughs and two were Mayoral appointees. It replaced the London Fire and Civil Defence Authority, on 3 July 2000. Under the Policing and Crime Act 2017, LFEPA was abolished in April 2018 and replaced with the London Fire Commissioner, a new governance arrangement within the Greater London Authority. Julian Bell (British Politician)
Julian Heward Bell (4 February 1908 – 18 July 1937) was an English poet, and the son of Clive and Vanessa Bell (who was the elder sister of Virginia Woolf). The writer Quentin Bell was his younger brother and the writer and painter Angelica Garnett was his half-sister. His relationship with his mother is explored in Susan Sellers' novel ''Vanessa and Virginia''. Background Julian Heward Bell was born in St Pancras, London, and was brought up at Charleston, Sussex. He was educated at Leighton Park School and King's College, Cambridge, where he joined the Cambridge Apostles. He was a friend of some of the Cambridge Five, including Anthony Blunt, to whom he lost his virginity. (In the BBC dramatisation ''Cambridge Spies'' he appears as Blunt's lover and Guy Burgess's unrequited love interest). After graduating he worked towards a college fellowship, without success. Catherine Sidony McGuinness is a politician and public speaker in the City of London Corporation. She served as Chair of the Policy and Resources Committee, the effective political leader of the corporation, from 2017 to 2022. She is the daughter of two academics, the philosopher Brian McGuinness and the music historian Rosamond McGuinness. Her brother, Paddy McGuinness, was the Deputy National Security Adviser for Intelligence, Security, and Resilience at the Cabinet Office, 2014 to 2018. She has represented Castle Baynard ward since 1997. In May 2017 she took over from Mark Boleat as chair of the Policy and Resources Committee of the City of London Corporation, having previously been deputy chairman. The London Borough of Sutton () is a London borough in south-west London, England and forms part of Outer London. It covers an area of and is the 80th largest local authority in England by population. It borders the London Borough of Croydon to the east, the London Borough of Merton to the north and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames to the north-west; it also borders the Surrey boroughs of Epsom and Ewell and Reigate and Banstead to the west and south respectively.
