London Academies Enterprise Trust
London Academies Enterprise Trust (LAET) is a multi-academy trust (MAT) controlled by the Academies Enterprise Trust ( AET) in England. History Since the 1990s schools in London have been improving at a faster rate than schools in the rest of England, and this is called the "London Effect." In 2010 Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London decided that the Mayor’s office should be involved in school transformation by sponsoring Academies. He therefore formed a group called the Mayor’s Academies Limited (MAL) and decided to work in a partnership with the country’s largest academy chain, ( AET), as joint co-sponsors in order to transform London schools. Multi-academy Trust
Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) or school trust is an academy trust that operates more than one academy school. Academy schools are state-funded schools in England which are directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. The terms of the arrangements are set out in individual Academy Funding Agreements. The group of schools in a multi-academy trust work together to advance education for public benefit. Academies Enterprise Trust
The Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) is a multi-academy trust in England. It is a non-profit, educational charitable trust, which sponsors schools with academy status. History Formally established in 2008 by the Greensward Charitable Trust (established in 1996 to support Greensward School). The first school in the trust was Greensward Academy, at Hockley, Essex. The Trust began growing in 2008 with 3 schools.See the Corporate Plan 2014-2017 on the following page At its largest the chain numbered 76 schools. By 2015, AET had contracted to 68 schools. Hockley Academy joined the trust in September 2018. As of 2021, AET has 58 schools and has been given the green light by the Department for Education to take on further primary and SEN schools. The Guardian
''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. The mayor of London is the chief executive of the Greater London Authority. The role was created in 2000 after the 1998 Greater London Authority referendum, Greater London devolution referendum in 1998, and was the first Directly elected mayors in England and Wales, directly elected mayor in the United Kingdom. Ian Comfort
Ian Comfort is a British educator and lawyer. He began his career as a maths teacher and youth worker. He progressed to become Director of Community Education for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and then Chief Education Officer for the City of London, where he became actively involved in the Government's Academy programme. He moved from the City in 2006 to become the chief operating officer for Ark Schools a newly created academy trust. In 2008, he was appointed as the first chief executive of the newly formed Edutrust, a Multi-academy Trust chaired by Lord Amir Bhatia, which was renamed as E-ACT in 2010. In 2012, Ian Comfort became the Group Secretary and General Counsel of Academies Enterprise Trust, which at that time was the largest Multi-Academy Trust in England with over 36,000 pupils. Bexleyheath Academy is a mixed secondary school state school in Bexleyheath, in the London Borough of Bexley. Students typically join the school in year 7 or enter into the sixth form. History The school was formed as a result of the merger in 1968 of two schools - an all-girls secondary modern school on the current site, and a boys central school which was located on Graham Road.
