Loma Portal (from Latin ''porta'' "gate") is a neighborhood in the community of Point Loma in San Diego, California. It is a hilly area northwest of Rosecrans Street and northeast of Nimitz Boulevard, overlooking San Diego Bay. Features Loma Portal is home to Point Loma High School, Dana Middle School, and several elementary schools. Also, Plumosa Park, a 1.4-acre passive park, is located in Loma Portal. The neighborhood also includes the James Edgar and Jean Jessop Hervey Point Loma Branch Library, which opened in 2003, replacing a smaller public library. The area is primarily residential, with a business and retail center located on Voltaire Street. Loma Portal lies directly under the takeoff flight path for nearby Lindbergh Field, making it the home of the “Point Loma Pause” where all conversation ceases temporarily because of airplane noise. Point Loma High School
Point Loma High School is a public high school in the San Diego Unified School District in San Diego, California, United States. It is located in the Loma Portal neighborhood of Point Loma. The school serves the neighborhoods of Point Loma and Ocean Beach. Students who live in Mission Hills may choose to attend Point Loma High School as their neighborhood school. Point Loma is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). History PLHS is the third oldest high school in the San Diego Unified School District. It was dedicated in 1925 as Point Loma Junior-Senior High school, serving grades 7 through 12. There were 386 students at its opening on September 22, 1925. Luminarias
A ''luminaria'', a small bonfire are lit during Las Posadas, a nine-day holiday running December 16–24. Farolito is a small paper lantern (commonly a candle set in some sand inside a paper bag), particularly in the broader Southwestern United States at Christmas time, especially on Christmas Eve. Especially significant in New Mexico, they are cultural hallmarks of the Pueblos and Spanish of New Mexico. Electrically-lit Farolitos are also used, consisting of a string of standard incandescent "Christmas lights" with the bulbs covered with a tan plastic sleeve, made to about the size and shape of a small paper bag. Roseville-Fleetridge, San Diego, California
Roseville-Fleetridge is a neighborhood in Point Loma, San Diego, California. It is bounded by San Diego Bay and Rosecrans Street on the east, Cañon Street on the south, Catalina Boulevard on the west and Chatsworth and Nimitz Boulevards on the north. Neighboring communities are Point Loma Heights and Loma Portal to the north, Point Loma Village and Liberty Station to the east, La Playa and the Wooded Area to the south, and Sunset Cliffs to the west.
