Lolita Carbon
Lolita Carbon is a Filipina singer and songwriter best known for her work with the band Asin and her influence in the Pinoy rock movement. She has been active as a composer and performer from 1970 to the present day who performs in Philippines as well as internationally. She is known for her songs "Masdan ang Kapaligiran", "Ang Buhay ko", "Pagbabalik", "Himig ng Pagibig" and "Usok". Career Carbon showed promise as a singer early in life. At age 10, she won a singing contest on the radio program ''Tina Betty's Children's Show'' with a performance of " The Impossible Dream". At age 13, she held a 6 month position as a singer with the Philippine Navy Band N2 Division and sang music by Shirley Bassey. Despite her father's wishes, Carbon decided to drop out of high school and pursue a career in music. AWIT Awards
The Awit Awards are music awards in the Philippines given annually by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) to recognize the outstanding achievements in the music industry. The word "Awit" means "song" literally in Filipino. The first awards were given in 1969 at a ceremony in Makati. After three awards ceremonies were held, the Awit Awards were discontinued in 1972. In 1988, PARI brought back the awards and today, the organization still handles these awards. History The idea for Awit Awards was conceived by Oskar "Oskee" Salazar, the Billboard correspondent for the Philippines at that time, in late 1968. The first awards ceremony was held on March 23, 1969, that took place in Makati. Aliw Awards
The Aliw Awards by the Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc. was established by the renowned Philippine journalist]Alice H. Reyes to recognize achievements in the live entertainment industry in the Philippines. It was founded in 1975 by the National Press Club but was then managed by the Aliw Foundation. The first awards show was held in 1977 with singer Pilita Corrales winning the Entertainer of the Year Award followed by Rico J. Puno, Rico Puno and Celeste Legaspi in 1978 and 1979, respectively.
