Lola (software)
LoLa (''lo''w ''la''tency audio visual streaming system) is proprietary software, proprietary networked music performance software, first conceived in 2005, that enables real-time rehearsing and performing with musicians at remote locations, overcoming Network latency, latency - the time lapse that occurs while (compressed) audio streams travel to and from each musician. Unlike similar systems, LoLa offers ultra-low latency video as well as audio streaming, and for this reason has extremely stringent hardware requirements (estimated cost over 12,600 euros). The current version supports up to 3 connections, with up to 4 cameras per site. Over 140 sites - primarily universities and conservatoires - are listed as LoLa installations. LoLa was conceived in 2005, when a Miami orchestra ran a master class accompanied by the Italian Research and Academic Network (GARR). JamKazam is proprietary networked music performance software that enables real-time rehearsing, jamming and performing with musicians at remote locations, overcoming latency - the time lapse that occurs while (compressed) audio streams travel to and from each musician. JamKazam is available in free and premium versions; the free version is peer-to-peer only, while the paid version offers the client-server model too, choosing whichever route is faster. It also allows streaming to social media, and has pre-recorded "JamTracks" for subscribers to play along to. Jamulus is open source ( GPL) networked music performance software that enables live rehearsing, jamming and performing with musicians located anywhere on the internet. Jamulus is written by Volker Fischer and contributors using C++. The Software is based on the Qt framework and uses the OPUS audio codec. It was known as "llcon" until 2013. One of the problems with music playing over the internet in real time is '' latency'' - the time lag that occurs while (compressed) audio streams travel to and from each musician. Although the precedence effect means that small delays (up to around 40 ms) can be perceived as synchronous, longer delays make it practically impossible to play live together. A further problem is ''jitter'', a type of packet delay due to changes in latency over time, which results in choppy or distorted sound. Pinchas Zukerman
Pinchas Zukerman (; born 16 July 1948) is an Israeli-American violinist, violist and conductor. Life and career Zukerman was born in Tel Aviv, to Jewish parents and Holocaust survivors Yehuda and Miriam Lieberman Zukerman. He began his musical studies at age four, on the recorder. His father then taught him to play the clarinet and then the violin at age eight. Early studies were at the Samuel Rubin Academy of Music (now the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music). Isaac Stern and Pablo Casals learned of Zukerman's violin talent during a 1962 visit to Israel.
