Lokobe National Park is a national park in northwestern Madagascar. It is located on southeastern side of Nosy Be, an island off the coast of Madagascar. Panther Chameleon
The panther chameleon (''Furcifer pardalis'') is a species of chameleon found in the eastern and northern parts of Madagascar in a tropical forest biome. Additionally, it has been Introduced species, introduced to Réunion and Mauritius. Taxonomy The Nosy Be panther chameleon was first described by French naturalist Georges Cuvier in 1829. Its genus, generic name (''Escherichia'') is derived from the Latin root ''furci'' meaning "forked" and refers to the shape of the animal's feet. The species, specific name ''pardalis'' refers to the animals' markings, as it is Latin for "leopard" or "spotted like a panther". The English word chameleon (also chamaeleon) derives from Latin ''chamaeleō'', a borrowing of the Ancient Greek χαμαιλέων (''khamailéōn''), a compound (linguistics), compound of χαμαί (''khamaí'') "on the ground" and λέων (''léōn'') "lion". Antsiranana Province
Antsiranana is a former province of Madagascar with an area of 43,406 km2. It had a population of 1,188,425 (July, 2001). Its capital was Antsiranana. Nosy Be
Nosy Be (formerly Nossi-bé and Nosse Be) is an island off the northwest coast of Madagascar. Nosy Be is Madagascar's largest and busiest tourist resort. It has an area of , and its population was 109,465 according to the provisional results of the 2018 Census. ''Nosy Be'' means "big island" in the Malagasy language. The island was called Assada during the early colonial era of the 17th century. Nosy Be has been given several nicknames over the centuries, including "Nosy Manitra" (the scented island). Microcebus Manitatra
The Bemanasy mouse lemur, ''Microcebus manitatra'', is a species of mouse lemur described in 2016 from Madagascar. It was discovered by a team of researchers at the German Primate Center. It was initially discovered among closely related species such as Madame Berthe's mouse lemur (already described in 2013), Boraha mouse lemur, and Ganzhorn's mouse lemur. Morphological similarity made it impossible to identify them as distinct species. A genetic study was done in collaboration with scientists at the University of Kentucky, the Duke Lemur Center and the University of Antananarivo in Madagascar. This list of national parks of Madagascar includes all officially recognized protected areas as of 2015. The protected areas network of Madagascar is managed by the Madagascar National Parks Association (PNM-ANGAP). The network includes three types of protected areas: Strict Nature Reserves (IUCN category Ia), National Parks (IUCN category II) and Wildlife Reserves (IUCN category IV). At the 2003 IUCN World Parks Congress in Durban, the Malagasy President, Marc Ravalomanana, announced an initiative to more than triple the area under protection from approximately to over (from 3% to 10% of Madagascar's area).
