Lois, Texas
Lois is an unincorporated community in Cooke County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 20 in 2000. It is located within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. History The area in what is known as Lois today developed in the late 1800s. A post office was established at Lois in 1897 and remained in operation until 1904. The community had a factory, two churches, two businesses, and several scattered houses serving 50 people in 1936. It still had a factory, only one business, a church, and 60 residents in 1963. Only a church and several scattered houses remained on the 1978 county highway map. Its population was 20 in 2000. Valley View Independent School District (Cooke County, Texas)
Valley View Independent School District is a public school district based in Valley View, Texas (USA). In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. History A two-story brick school was built in 1902-03 when the district was first formed, located on the north side of the town square. A larger school was built in 1938 on the south side of the town. The building is still in use as part of the elementary school. It has been renovated to restore the original features of the building. The original footprint of the school features a maintained decorative sandstone perimeter wall and bleachers, originally built by the Works Progress Administration in 1932-33. It was preserved during campus renovations circa 2015. The district grew during the time of school consolidation in the early to mid 20th Century. Valley View, Texas
Valley View is a city in Cooke County, Texas, United States. Its population was 757 at the 2010 census. History The town was first settled in 1870 by the Lee family. L.W. Lee plotted a town on his land in 1872, naming it "Valley View", presumably for the view offered at the site of Spring Creek valley. Eighteen families moved in, and a post office opened in the community that same year. A blacksmith shop was opened in 1873, and the shop was used for the community's first school. By 1884, the town had an estimated 250 inhabitants, three steam gristmills and cotton gins, and three general stores, and it shipped cotton, livestock, and wheat. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway (now the BNSF Railway) reached the town in 1886. Valley View had four church buildings and a hotel by 1890, and the Valley View Independent School District was incorporated in 1902. Gainesville, Texas
Gainesville is a city in and the county seat of Cooke County, Texas, United States. Its population was 16,002 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Texoma region and is an important Agri-business center. History Founded in 1850, the city of Gainesville was established on a tract of land donated by Mary E. Clark. City residents called their new community "Liberty", which proved short-lived, as a Liberty, Texas, already existed. One of the original settlers of Cooke County, Colonel William Fitzhugh, suggested that the town be named after General Edmund Pendleton Gaines.
