The 61st Annual TV Week Logie Awards ceremony was held at The Star Gold Coast in Queensland and was broadcast live on the Nine Network. Public voting for the Most Popular Award categories ran from 4 to 31 March 2019, with the shortlist of nominees released on 26 May. Each network is restricted in the number of personalities and programs they can submit for consideration in the publicly voted category, including up to 10 names in both the Most Popular Actor and Actress categories, 15 names for Most Popular Presenter, and 5 programs for Most Popular Drama. These restrictions on nominations often lead to controversy as being widely panned for the second consecutive year over those who are not listed in the voting form, and as a result, they are not eligible to be nominated for an award. The Star Gold Coast
The Star Gold Coast (formerly Jupiters Hotel and Casino) is a casino and hotel located in the suburb of Broadbeach on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. The casino, which was Queensland's first, is situated next to the Nerang River and is operated by Star Entertainment Group. It opened in November 1985 as Conrad Jupiters. In 2017 it was rebranded as The Star, Gold Coast. One per cent of the casino's gross gaming revenue is deposited in the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. This fund was established in 1987, supports non-profit community-based groups and is administered by the Government of Queensland. The seven acre complex includes eight bars, seven restaurants, conference facilities, a ballroom, theatre, health spa and gym. Logie Award For Most Popular Actor
The Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor is an award presented annually at the Australian TV Week Logie Awards. The award recognises the popularity of an actor in an Australian program. It was first awarded at the 19th Annual TV Week Logie Awards, held in 1977 when the award category was originally called Most Popular Australian Lead Actor. It was later renamed Most Popular Actor and briefly Best Actor (2016–2017). For the 2018 ceremony, the award category name was reverted to Most Popular Actor. ''The Project'' (previously ''The 7PM Project'' from 2009 to 2011) is an Australian news- current affairs and talk show television panel program, airing weeknights across Australia on Network 10, produced by Roving Enterprises. Waleed Aly
Waleed Aly (born 15 August 1978) is an Australian journalist, academic, and lawyer. Aly is a lecturer in politics at Monash University working in their Global Terrorism Research Centre, and a co-host of Network Ten's news and current affairs television program '' The Project''. He also writes for Fairfax Media, co-hosts ''The Minefield'', an ABC RN program about ethical dilemmas of modern life, and is lead guitarist in rock band Robot Child. In 2016, he won the Gold Logie Award for Best Personality on Australian Television. Early life and education Aly was born on 15 August 1978 in Melbourne, Victoria, to Egyptian parents. Sam "Sam Mac" McMillan is an Australian television host, weather presenter, and entertainer. Rodger Corser (born 28 February 1973) is an Australian actor. He is best known for his portrayals of Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Owen in the Nine Network crime mini-series ''Underbelly'', based on the Melbourne gangland killings, Senior Sergeant Lawson Blake in the Network Ten police drama series ''Rush'', and as Dr. Hugh Knight in The Nine Network series '' Doctor Doctor''.
