Logie Awards Of 1960
The 2nd Annual TV Week Logie Awards were presented in January 1960 at the Savoy Private Hotel in Melbourne. It was not televised. The awards were only for Melbourne television. All major cities had different stations. Hugh O'Brian was the guest host and presented some awards on '' IMT''. Brighton Savoy Hotel
Brighton Savoy is located in the Bayside suburb of Brighton, Victoria in Australia. It is located opposite Brighton Beach at 150 Esplanade, overlooking Port Phillip Bay. Brighton Savoy has been in operation as an accommodation complex since 1959 and during that time has hosted a number of high-profile events, such as the second TV Week Logie Awards presentation ceremony in 1960. History Prior to Brighton Savoy's establishment as a hotel, the location for Brighton Savoy was originally built in 1909 as a luxurious private mansion. In the 1930s, St Leonard's Presbyterian Girl's College used it as accommodation and an official boarding house for girls from the country. By the 1940s, it was known as Manoa and then as the 'Savoy Private Hotel'. The ballroom was often used for functions and guests began booking it for weddings. Gold Logie
The Gold Logie Award for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television, commonly referred to simply as the Gold Logie, is an award presented annually at the Australian Logie Awards. The Gold Logie was first awarded at the 2nd Annual TV Week Logie Awards, held in 1960 when the award was originally called Most Popular Personality on Australian Television. It was briefly renamed ''Best Personality on Australian Television'' in 2016-2017. For the 2018 ceremony, the award category name was reverted to Most Popular Personality on Australian Television. The winner and nominees of the Gold Logie are chosen by the public through an online voting survey on the ''TV Week'' website. Gold Logies were awarded for separate male and female categories in 1962, 1967, 1970, 1971, and between 1974 and 1977. Panda Lisner
Panda Lisner (born Joan Dorothy Kelly; 29 August 1930 – 2011) was an Australian model and television presenter, most notable for her work during the early days of Australian television. Lisner is arguably best known for her time as a "barrel girl" on the prize wheel audience-participation segment of the live variety show, ''In Melbourne Tonight''. On 31 August 1966 she joined only a handful of women who filled in as replacement comperes for Graham Kennedy in the first 10 years of that program. ''Father Knows Best'' is an American sitcom starring Robert Young, Jane Wyatt, Elinor Donahue, Billy Gray and Lauren Chapin. Brenda Marshall (born Ardis Ankerson; September 29, 1915Some question exists regarding the exact date of her birth. An article in the December 31, 1939, issue of the ''Salt Lake Tribune'' says that she was born November 29, 1915. – July 30, 1992) was an American film actress. The Phil Silvers Show
''The Phil Silvers Show'', originally titled ''You'll Never Get Rich'', is a sitcom which ran on CBS from 1955 to 1959. A pilot titled "Audition Show" was made in 1955, but it was never broadcast. 143 other episodes were broadcast – all half-an-hour long except for a 1959 one-hour live special. The series starred Phil Silvers as Master Sergeant Ernest G. Bilko of the United States Army. The series was created by Nat Hiken and won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Best Comedy Series. The show is sometimes titled ''Sergeant Bilko'' or simply ''Bilko'' in reruns, and it is very often referred to by these names, both on-screen and by viewers. Ruth Nye
Ruth Nye MBE (born 1932) is an Australian pianist and teacher, based in the United Kingdom. Ruth Nye, born Ruth Farren-Price, sister of fellow pianist Ronald Farren-Price, grew up in Australia where she attended Methodist Ladies' College in Melbourne. Career Nye studied with Claudio Arrau in New York, and had a career as a concert pianist, initially known by her maiden name Ruth Farren-Price, before turning her attention to teaching. ''Shell Presents'' was an early attempt at Australian television drama, being an umbrella title for several different productions. It debuted on 4 April 1959, and aired on ATN-7 and GTV-9, who split production of plays for the series between them. It was an anthology series, each program being a self-contained play for television. The series won a Logie award in 1960 for ''TV Highlight of 1959''. As the title suggests, it was sponsored by Shell. It was described as "a very big deal for the station: major institutional sponsorship from international companies for locally produced drama." It would be followed by ''The General Motors Hour''. Though it usually presented straight drama, it also presented a live musical production titled ''Pardon Miss Westcott'', set in colonial-era Australia. GTV9
GTV is a commercial television station in Melbourne, Australia, owned by the Nine Network. The station is currently based at studios at 717 Bourke Street, Docklands. History GTV-9 was amongst the first television stations to begin regular transmission in Australia. Test transmissions began on 27 September 1956, introduced by former 3DB radio announcer Geoff Corke, based at the Mount Dandenong transmitter, as the studios in Richmond were not yet ready. The station covered the 1956 Summer Olympics which Melbourne hosted., the 1956 Carols By Candlelight and the Davis Cup tennis as part of its test transmissions. The station was officially opened on 19 January 1957 by Victorian Governor Sir Dallas Brooks from the studios in Bendigo Street, Richmond. A clip from the ceremony has featured in a number of GTV-9 retrospectives, in which the Governor advises viewers that if they did not like the programs, they could just turn off.
