Logan County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 census, the population was 716. Its county seat is Stapleton. Logan County is part of the North Platte, NE Micropolitan Statistical Area. In the Nebraska license plate system, Logan County is represented by the prefix 87 (it had the eighty-seventh-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922). History Logan County was formed in 1885. It was named for Civil War General John A. Logan. The first railroad was built through Logan County in 1911. Geography The terrain of Logan County consists of low corrugated flatland, sparsely used for agricultural purposes at present. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. McPherson County is a county in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 399, making it the least populous county in the state of Nebraska and the fifth-least populous county in the United States. Its county seat is Tryon. The county was formed in 1890 from Logan County; it was named for Civil War General James B. McPherson. In 1913 a portion of McPherson County was partitioned off to create Arthur County, giving McPherson County its present boundaries. Gandy is a village in Logan County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the North Platte, Nebraska Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 34 at the 2020 census. History Gandy was the first seat of Logan County. An election on July 25, 1885, established the town of Gandy and named it the Logan County seat. Gandy was named after an early settler, Jim Gandy, who agreed to donate the land for the town in exchange for the naming rights. Gandy was the largest town in Logan County until a Union Pacific spur line bypassed it to the north, and terminated at a newly established town, Stapleton, in 1913.
