Logan (Queensland Electoral District)
Logan is an electoral district in southern Queensland, Australia. Logan encompasses urban and semi-rural environments on the southern outskirts of the Brisbane metropolitan area. Major locations within the electoral district include Browns Plains, Crestmead, Park Ridge and North Maclean. History The electoral district of Logan was established under the 1872 Electoral Districts Act which excised the southern part of the Electoral district of East Moreton (the Gold Coast area). Successive redistributions shifted the boundaries northwards towards Brisbane. It was abolished in the 1949 redistribution, being mostly absorbed into the Electoral district of Coorparoo and the Electoral district of Yeronga. In the 1959 redistribution, the Logan electoral district was re-created in the Redland Shire, largely replacing the Electoral district of Darlington. North Maclean, Queensland
North Maclean is a locality in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , North Maclean had a population of 1,536 people. Geography North Maclean is on the Mount Lindesay Highway with the Logan River as part of its eastern and southern boundary. South Maclean is immediately to the south of North Maclean. The western boundary of North Maclean is marked by the Sydney–Brisbane rail corridor. History North and South Maclean were once a single district originally known as ''Logan Bridge'', as there was a low-level bridge across the Logan River at this location since 1860. The district later acquired the name ''Maclean'', probably after Alexander Grant McLean, the acting Surveyor General of New South Wales from 1856—1861. Philip Henry Nind
Philip Henry Nind (7 April 1831 – 9 March 1896) was an English rower and gold commissioner in colonial British Columbia. He was also a politician in Queensland, Australia, where he was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life Philip Henry Nind was born in Wargrave, Berkshire on 7 April 1831, the son of Rev. Philip Henry Nind and his wife Agnes Bussell. He attended Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford where he was a proficient rower. In the 1852 Boat Race, he rowed No 3 in the winning Oxford boat stroked by J W Chitty. At Henley Royal Regatta, he won Silver Goblets in 1852 partnering H R Barker and was also a member of the winning Oxford four in the Stewards' Challenge Cup. In 1853 Nind was a member of the winning Oxford eight in the Grand Challenge Cup at Henley and was also again in the winning Oxford four in Stewards' Challenge Cup. Electoral District Of Albert
Albert was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland which existed from 1887 to 1949 and 1959 to 2017. Albert was named for the Albert River, which runs through the electorate and separates Logan City from City of Gold Coast. It was first created in a redistribution in 1887 ahead of the 1888 colonial election and continued to exist (with various boundary alterations) until 1949, when the Darlington and Southport electorates were created. In 1959, the electorate was established again. The 1971 and 1977 redistributions greatly reduced the area of the electorate and minor changes were made in 1991, including the loss of Carbrook in the north and coastal areas below Paradise Point in the south. Its consistently changing boundaries together with its existence in a high-growth area do not provide consistent political leanings over time, although it showed more inclination towards the Labor Party over time than any other Gold Coast seat. Electoral District Of Fassifern
Fassifern was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1992. It was based on the area south of Ipswich and stretched toward the New South Wales border, although in subsequent redistributions was reduced in size away from the growing Brisbane area. It was named after the Fassifern Valley. Fassifern was a safe Country/National district for most of its existence. It was abolished in the 1991 redistribution under the Goss government, and was largely replaced by the new district of Beaudesert.
