Loefah
Peter Livingston (born 8 September 1980), known professionally as Loefah, is one of the pioneering founders of dubstep most notable for his releases on one of the genre's founding labels, DMZ. Loefah started off collaborating with the Digital Mystikz on the DMZ nights run in Brixton and was part of Mary Anne Hobbs' Dubstep Warz radio show that contributed to breaking the genre to the mainstream. He was known for having a dark and minimal style that used powerful basslines and menacing vocal samples in order to create a sense of dread. In around 2007 Loefah began to fall out of love with the genre. In 2009 he founded the record label Swamp 81 which originally released dubstep records by the likes of Kryptic Minds and Skream. Coki
Digital Mystikz are a dubstep production duo consisting of Mala (born Mark Lawrence), and Coki (born Dean Harris, 26 August 1980) from the South London suburb of Norwood. Along with Loefah and SGT Pokes, who make up the group ASBO (All Soundbwoy Out), they operate the DMZ record label and host the influential bimonthly the other one) and "central to the scene". Tectonic (record Label)
Tectonic is a British electronic music label, founded and run by Rob Ellis ( Pinch) which focuses primarily on dubstep and its related genres. As one of the founding dubstep labels, alongside Tempa, DMZ, Hyperdub, and Hotflush, Tectonic became a focal point for the Bristol scene, as well as introducing artists and releases that were among the first to bridge a gap between dubstep and techno. Pinch (dubstep Musician)
Rob Ellis, better known as Pinch, is a British dubstep artist from Bristol, England, noted for his fusion of styles such as reggae, World music, and dancehall with dubstep. He released his first album, ''Underwater Dancehall'' in 2007, on Tectonic, which he founded. One of Pinch's most well-known tracks is "Qawwali", released on Planet Mu records, which references the devotional singing of the same name, and featured samples of harmonium and singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. His songs appear on compilations such as ''Box of Dub: Dubstep and Future Dub 2'' (Soul Jazz Records), ''Science Faction: Dubstep'' (Breakbeat Science Recordings), ''10 Tons Heavy'' (Planet Mu) and ''200'' (Planet Mu). Kevin Martin (British Musician)
Kevin Richard Martin, often known under his recording alias The Bug, is an English musician and music producer. Martin moved from Weymouth to London around 1990 and is now currently based in mainland Europe. He has been active for over two decades in the genres of dub, jazzcore, industrial hip hop, dancehall, and dubstep. Martin's projects include GOD, Techno Animal, Ice, Curse of the Golden Vampire, Pressure and, most recently, King Midas Sound (with poet Roger Robinson and singer/visual artist Kiki Hitomi) and The Bug vs Earth. Early life Martin first became interested in music as a teenager going to Handsome Dick's, a record store in Weymouth, Dorset, England, UK. Skream
Oliver Dene Jones (born 1 June 1986), known as Skream, is an English electronic music producer based in Croydon. Skream was an early and influential exponent of the dubstep genre. After producing several singles, he released his first full-length album, '' Skream!'', in 2006. Skream and longtime collaborators Artwork and Benga co-founded a music group called Magnetic Man. Their debut album, ''Magnetic Man'' was released in 2010. In July 2011, Jones had his first child, a son. Jones is the brother of jungle DJ Hijak. Addison Groove
Tony Williams, better known as Addison Groove (and formerly known as Headhunter), is an electronic music artist from Bristol, United Kingdom. Noted for his fusion of styles such as Techno, Jungle, Soul, Juke and Dubstep, he released his first album 'Nomad' on Tempa (the same label that Skream and Benga started on) in 2008. One of Addison Grooves most well known tracks 'Foot Crab' was later released on Dubstep legend Loefah's label 'Swamp 81' and features cut up samples influenced by the Chicago 'Juke' sound. Rinse FM
Rinse FM is a London-based community radio station, licensed for "young people living and/or working within the central, east and south London areas". It plays garage, grime, dubstep, house, jungle, UK funky and other dance music genres popular in the United Kingdom. The station was founded in 1994 and operated as a pirate radio station until it was awarded a broadcast licence in June 2010. Rinse FM has been described as London's biggest pirate radio station.
