Locws International
Locws International is a contemporary arts organisation, based in Swansea, South Wales, UK. They work with British and international artists to create visual responses to aspects of the city’s heritage, landscape and people, most notably through their Locws and Art Across the City events. Artworks are often temporary and are generally site-specific sculptures, installations, performances or moving image based, cited in accessible public spaces, both indoors and out. The organisation was originally set up in 1999 by Swansea-based artistDavid HastieanTim Davies It is an artist-led charity and maintains an ongoing educational outreach project working in schools in the Swansea area. Swansea
Swansea (; cy, Abertawe ) is a coastal city and the second-largest city of Wales. It forms a principal area, officially known as the City and County of Swansea ( cy, links=no, Dinas a Sir Abertawe). Laura Ford
Laura Ford (born 6 February 1961) in Cardiff, Wales is a British sculptor. Early life Growing up in a travelling fairground family, Ford was educated at Stonar School in Wiltshire, and then at Bath Academy of Art from 1978 to 1982, while spending a term at the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City. In 1982 she was invited to take part in the annual New Contemporaries exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and then studied at the Chelsea School of Art from 1982 to 1983. Dorothy Cross
Dorothy Cross (born 1956) is an Irish artist. Working with differing media, including sculpture, photography, video and installation, she represented Ireland at the 1993 Venice Biennale. Central to her work as a whole are themes of sexual and cultural identity, personal history, memory, and the gaps between the conscious and subconscious. In a 2009 speech by the president of UCC, Cross was described as "one of Ireland’s leading artists". Early life and education Cross was born in 1956 in Cork, Ireland, one of three children of Fergus and Dorothy Cross. Her older brother Tom went on to become a zoologist and professor at University College, Cork, while her older sister Jane was a swimmer who was on a team that set a world relay record at the 1985 World Masters Championships. Maud Cotter
Maud Cotter (born 1954) is an Irish artist, active in installation art, drawing, sculpture and landscape art. She is a member of Aosdána, an Irish association of artists. Early life Cotter was born in Wexford in 1954. Career Cotter studied at the Crawford Art Gallery, Crawford Municipal College of Art and Design in Cork (graduating in 1975). In 1989 she was a co-founder of the National Sculpture Factory, with Vivienne Roche, Eilis O'Connell and Danny McCarthy. A visit to Iceland in 1991 ignited an interest in sculpture. She was elected to Aosdána in 2000. Cotter is chiefly known for her work in sculpture. Alice Maher
Alice Maher (born 1956) is a contemporary Irish artist working in a variety of media, including sculpture, photography and installation. Education Maher was born in Kilmoyler, near Bansha, County Tipperary and received her early education at Ballydrehid National School and at Coláiste Chríost Rí, Cahir. She later graduated from the University of Limerick and the Crawford College of Art in Cork. Then she undertook an MA at the University of Ulster, Belfast in 1985 and 1986. Maher spent time in San Francisco Art Institute in 1986 as a Fulbright Scholar. Brigitte Jurack
Brigitte Jurack (born Düsseldorf, 1962) is a contemporary artist based in Liverpool, working predominantly in sculpture and performance art. Life and career Brigitte Jurack studied Protestant Theology at the Universities of Göttingen, Münster and Bonn, and Fine Art at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in Germany. Jurack completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art in 1990, supported by a British Council Scholarship. She went on to complete an MA Sculpture at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London in 1992. In 2018 she completed a PhD doctoral thesis entitled 'Why bother? Jaan Toomik (born 2 October 1961 in Tartu) is an Estonian video artist, painter and award-winning filmmaker, often described as the most widely acknowledged Estonian contemporary artist on the international scene. Helen Sear
Helen Sear (born 1955) is a British mixed media artist specialising in photography and moving image. Early life Helen Sear was born in Banbury, England, in 1955 and grew up in the West Midlands. Her mother was a teacher and her father a maxillo-facial surgeon and she has two younger brothers. Career Sear studied Fine Art at Reading University and University College London, and she studied at Slade School. In the late 1980s, she worked primarily through installation, performance, and film. Her photographic works were included in the 1991 British Council exhibition "De-Composition: Constructed Photography in Britain", which toured Latin America and Eastern Europe. Marko Mäetamm
Marko Mäetamm (born 13 December 1965, in Viljandi, Estonia) is an Estonian multimedia artist, working within the mediums of video, drawing and the internet. Mäetamm began studying graphic art at the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1988 and received his M.A. from the academy in 1996. Mäetamm also studied practicing print technologies at the Swedish Royal Art High School. His professional art career spanning over two decades, Mäetamm emerged as one of the most prominent artists in Estonia upon graduating from Estonian Art Academy. David Blandy (born 1976) is a British artist. He was educated at the Slade School of Fine Art and the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London.
