Whitey Lockman
Carroll Walter "Whitey" Lockman (July 25, 1926 – March 17, 2009) was a left-handed hitting first baseman and outfielder, coach, manager and front office executive in Major League Baseball. Playing career Born in Lowell, North Carolina, Lockman signed with the Giants as a 17-year-old during World War II and came to New York from the minor leagues in the middle of the 1945 season, just prior to his 19th birthday. He batted .341 in limited duty that season. On October 3, 1951, Lockman scored the tying run, just ahead of Bobby Thomson, on Thomson's home run that gave the New York Giants the National League championship—baseball's " Shot Heard 'Round the World." Lockman's one-out double against the Brooklyn Dodgers had scored Alvin Dark with the Giants' first run of the inning, and made the score 4–2, Brooklyn. Lockman Foundation
The Lockman Foundation is a nonprofit, interdenominational Christian ministry dedicated to the translation, publication, and distribution of Bibles and other biblical resources in English and other languages. The foundation's core products are the New American Standard Bible and the Amplified Bible, both evolving from the 1901 American Standard Version. By 2009, the foundation had distributed about 25 million Bibles. The foundation was established in 1942 by F. Dewey Lockman (1898–1974) and his wife Minna Lockman when they donated part of their citrus ranch in La Habra, California. Dewey Lockman led the foundation until his death, followed by Samuel Sutherland (1974–1979), and Robert Lambeth (1979–2017). Robert Lambeth was a donor to all six seminaries of the Southern Baptist Convention. The foundation reported assets of $13 million and employment of 12 staff for 2020. Vic Lockman
Vic Lockman ( October 19, 1927 – June 1, 2017) was an American Christian cartoonist and comic strip writer. He started cartooning from a young age, taught by his father. He was once head of the art department for the School of Aviation Medicine at Randolph Field, Texas. He was married and had 6 children. His son, Mark Thomas Lockman (1952–1989) was a journalist, to whom one of Vic's cartoon books was dedicated. Among the many comic strips and cartoons he created, Lockman might be most known for his characters created for Disney comics in 1960; Newton Gearloose and Moby Duck. In 1985 Lockman created “Who’s Behind the South African Crisis?”, the pro-apartheid comic as a supplement to newsletters published by the Canadian League of Rights. ''The News Journal'' is the main newspaper for Wilmington, Delaware, and the surrounding area. It is headquartered in unincorporated New Castle County, Delaware, near New Castle, and is owned by Gannett. History The ancestry of the News Journal reflects the mergers of several newspapers. It is dated to Oct. 1, 1866 when Howard M. Jenkins and Wilmer Atkinson started the afternoon publication ''Daily Commercial''. In 1877, that paper was absorbed into a rival, the ''Every Evening'', founded by Georgetown native William T. Croasdale. The ''Evening Journal'', later owned by the Du Pont family, was founded in 1888 as a competitor to the Every Evening. The two papers merged in 1933. Another predecessor to the News Journal was the ''Morning Herald'', founded in 1876 by Philadelphia lawyer John O'Byrne. It later became the Daily Morning News, bought by Alfred I. Du Pont in 1911.
