Lobo (DC Comics)
Lobo is a character appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. The Lobo character was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, and he first appeared in ''Omega Men'' #3 (June 1983). Lobo is an alien from the utopian planet of Czarnia, and he works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. Lobo was first introduced as a hardened villain in the 1980s, but he soon fell out of use with writers. He remained in limbo until his revival as a bounty hunter with his own comic in the early 1990s. Writers attempted to use Lobo as a parody of the 1990s trend towards "grim and gritty" superhero stories, but he was instead enthusiastically accepted by fans of the trend. Los Lobos (, Spanish for "the Wolves") are an American rock band from East Los Angeles, California. The New Mexico Lobos are the athletic teams that represent the University of New Mexico, located in Albuquerque. The university participates in the NCAA Division I in the Mountain West Conference (MW) since 1999, after leaving the Western Athletic Conference. The university's athletic program fields teams in 16 varsity sports. UNM teams have won three national championships. Roland Kent LaVoie (born July 31, 1943), better known by his stage name Lobo (which is a Spanish word for wolf), is an American singer-songwriter who was successful in the 1970s, scoring several U.S. Top 10 hits including " Me and You and a Dog Named Boo", "I'd Love You to Want Me", and " Don't Expect Me to Be Your Friend". These three songs, along with " Where Were You When I Was Falling in Love", gave Lobo four chart toppers on the Easy Listening/Hot Adult Contemporary chart. "Lobo, the King of Currumpaw" is the first story of author Ernest Thompson Seton's 1898 book '' Wild Animals I Have Known''. Seton based the book on his experience hunting wolves in the Southwestern United States. Summary Lobo was a North American Mexican gray wolf who lived in the Currumpaw Valley (Corrumpa Creek) in New Mexico. During the 1890s, Lobo and his pack, having been deprived of their natural prey such as bison, elk, and pronghorn by settlers, became forced to prey on the settlers' livestock to survive. The ranchers (at Cross L Ranch) tried to kill Lobo and his pack by poisoning critter carcasses, but the wolves removed the poisoned pieces and threw them aside, eating the rest. They tried to kill the wolves with traps and by hunting parties, but these efforts also failed. Lobo is a ghost town in Culberson County, Texas, United States, that was abandoned in 1991. Geography Lobo is located in the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas, between the Van Horn Mountains and Wylie Mountains in southern Culberson County. It is situated along U.S. Highway 90, about south of Van Horn and west of Valentine. History The community's history dates back to the mid-19th century, when a bolson aquifer named Van Horn Wells was discovered in the area.
