Lo Nuestro Award For Banda Artist Of The Year
The Lo Nuestro Award for Banda Artist of the Year is an award presented annually by American network Univision. It was first awarded in 2001 and has been given annually since. The accolade was established to recognize the most talented performers of Latin music. The nominees and winners were originally selected by a voting poll conducted among program directors of Spanish-language radio stations in the United States and also based on chart performance on ''Billboard'' Latin music charts, with the results being tabulated and certified by the accounting firm Deloitte. At the present time, the winners are selected by the audience through an online survey. The trophy awarded is shaped in the form of a treble clef. The award was first presented to Mexican band Banda el Recodo in 2001, they also hold the most wins and most nominations with 6 out of ten nominations. The Lo Nuestro Awards or Premios Lo Nuestro (Spanish for "Our Thing") is a Spanish-language awards show honoring the best of Latin music, presented by Univision, a Spanish-language television network based in the United States. The awards began in 1989. The artist with the most Premios Lo Nuestro awards is Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón. The awards ceremony features famous Latino actors, musicians and show business personalities. The show is broadcast all over the Americas. In February 2006, Univision announced that closed captioning in English would be offered for the first time in the history of the broadcast. La Arrolladora Banda El Limón de René Camacho, or simply La Arrolladora, is a Mexican banda from Mazatlán, Sinaloa. In 1997 they signed with Sony Music Latin. In 2003, they switched labels and signed with Disa Records. History Banda El Limón was formed in 1965 in El Limón de los Peraza, Sinaloa by Pedro Aramburo, Encarnación Peraza, Lino Quintero, Carlos Peraza and Pedro Peraza. The Banda began performing in the port of Mazatlán, and in 1976, Salvador Lizárraga assumed the direction of the Banda. In 1997, internal conflicts arose in the Banda, as René Camacho assumed the temporary direction while Salvador Lizárraga was recovering from a stroke. The disputes between Camacho and Lizárraga led to the division of the Banda in two: René Camacho recruited many members of the Banda and founded La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, while the members who remained with Lizárraga continued performing as La Original Banda El Limón. Ernesto Pérez (born 23 October 1964 in Badiraguato, Sinaloa, Mexico) better known by his stage name El Chapo de Sinaloa (Spanish: The Shorty from Sinaloa), is a Regional Mexican singer and actor. He started out professionally as a Norteño singer, but has since been primarily focused with Banda, as well as some Mariachi songs. He first played with local groups at age 11 as a clarinetist. Later, he learned to play bass, and found work as a session musician with regional Mexican labels. In the 1990s he signed with EMI Latin and launched a solo career. Since then he has released over a dozen albums, which have been successful both in Mexico and the United States; he has recorded for Sony Discos and D Disa. Los Horóscopos de Durango were a Regional Mexican band. In their first years, they were a grupero band, but they eventually changed to the duranguense style when the genre was becoming mainstream.
