Eastern Province Cricket Team
Eastern Province cricket team was the former team that represented the Eastern Province in domestic first-class cricket in South Africa, alongside one-day matches. Eastern Province played first-class cricket from 1893–94 to 2004–05, when the team was merged with neighbouring team Border to form the entirely professional franchise the Warriors. From 2004–05 the former provincial teams, such as Eastern Province, were allocated two CSA Provincial Competitions that they could participate in: the CSA 3-Day Cup and the CSA One-Day Cup. Although given first-class status, these competitions were to be only semi-professional and no longer represented the top level of domestic cricket in South Africa. In 2020, domestic cricket in South Africa was restructured and the six former franchise teams were dropped. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. KwaZulu-Natal Inland are a South African first-class cricket team who are based in Pietermaritzburg. They form part of the Dolphins franchise and are one of five South African associate teams. Their home games are played at Pietermaritzburg Oval. KwaZulu-Natal Inland were granted first-class status in 2006 and took part in the 2006-07 South African Airways Provincial Three-Day Challenge. They continue to take part in the Provincial Three-Day Challenge tournament and the Provincial One-Day Competition.
