Llanllechid () is a village near Bethesda and a community in Gwynedd, Wales with a population of 889 as of the 2011 UK census and an area of . The community also includes Tal-y-Bont near Bangor, Gwynedd and a large part of the Carneddau range so is therefore sparsely populated. Eglwys St Llechid, Llanllechid St Llechid is the patron saint of the village, where she founded the parish church and a holy well (now lost). The church closed in 2002. John Francon Williams
John Francon Williams (1854 – 4 September 1911) was a Welsh writer, geographer, historian, journalist, cartographer, and inventor, born in Llanllechid, Caernarvonshire. His seminal work was ''The Geography of the Oceans''. Family John Francon Williams was the second son of Richard Williams (b. 1818 Llanllechid) and his wife Mary (b. 1822 Denbighshire). Richard and Mary were blessed with two further sons, William (b. 1843) and Henry (b. 1858), and two daughters, Mary Jr. (b. 1857) and Grace (b. 1862). All the children were born in Llanllechid, North Wales. The Williams family first lived at Cenfaes Terrace and then, as the family grew larger, moved to a stone cottage at 5 Pencennant (''Pen-y-ceunant''), one of a row of traditional terraced stone cottages in Llanllechid, where all their immediate neighbours were also named Williams. Saint Llechid
Llechid was a 6th-century pre-congregational saint of Wales. Born about 556 AD in Brittany, she was the child of Ithel Hael de Cornouaille and an unknown mother. Her family moved to Wales, where many of her siblings founded churches. She is the Patron Saint of Llanllechid Wales, where she built a Church and where a holy well (now lost) is attributed to her. Margaret Thomas (hymnwriter)
Margaret Thomas (born 1779) was a Welsh hymnwriter. Biography She was born in 1779 in Llanllechid, Caernarfonshire, Wales; her father was William Llwyd. She wrote hymns in the flyleaves (blank pages) of her Bible and other books. None of her hymns were published during her lifetime. Pastor Thomas Levi discovered her verses and published them in the magazine ''Y Traethodydd ''Y Traethodydd'' (''The Essayist'') is a quarterly cultural magazine published in the Welsh language covering historical, literary and theological topics. It is the oldest magazine in Wales and the oldest magazine in the Welsh language still in ...'' in 1904. The hymn ''Dyma Feibil annwyl Iesu'' (''This is Jesus’ Precious Bible'') has been attributed to her given that it was written in her handwriting in one of her books, but the attribution is uncertain because Thomas sometimes copied down hymns from other sources. Elias Owen (footballer)
Elias Owen (1863 – 20 September 1888) was a Welsh amateur footballer who made three appearances as a goalkeeper for the Wales national team in 1884. He killed himself while depressed over the outcome of his college final examinations. Family and education Owen was born in the first quarter of 1863 at Llanllechid, near Bangor where his father, also Elias, was headmaster of the National School. Elias Jr. was one of 13 children of the marriage between Elias Sr. (1833–1899) and Margaret Pierce (1839–fl.1901). Later in life, Elias Sr. was a schools inspector and an eminent antiquarian. Elias's elder brother, William Pierce Owen, also played for Wales, as did his cousins, Morgan and Hugh Morgan-Owen. Owen attended Ruthin Grammar School between 1880 and 1885 before going up to Lampeter College, where he studied theology. Bethesda, Gwynedd
Bethesda (; ) is a town and community on the River Ogwen and the A5 road on the edge of Snowdonia, in Gwynedd, north-west Wales. It is the fifth-largest community in Gwynedd. History The settlement's ancient name was Cilfoden, formerly known as Glanogwen. In 1823, the Bethesda Chapel was built and the town subsequently grew around and later named after it. The chapel was rebuilt in 1840. The town grew around the slate quarrying industries; the largest of the local quarries is the Penrhyn Quarry. At its peak, the town exported purple slate all over the world. Penrhyn Quarry suffered a three-year strike led by the North Wales Quarrymen's Union between 1900 and 1903 – the longest industrial dispute in British history. Carneddau
The (lit. 'the cairns'; is a Welsh plural form, and is sometimes anglicised to ''Carnedds'') are a group of mountains in Snowdonia, Wales. They include the largest contiguous areas of high ground (over or high) in Wales and England (although larger areas over 2,000 feet are found in Northern England), as well as six or seven of the highest peaks in the country—the Fifteen Peaks. The range also encloses a number of lakes such as Llyn Cowlyd and Llyn Eigiau, and the Aber Falls waterfall. It is delimited by the Irish Sea to the north, the Conwy valley to the east, and by the A5 road from Betws-y-Coed to Bethesda to the south and west. Gwynedd

Community (Wales)
A community ( cy, cymuned) is a division of land in Wales that forms the lowest tier of local government in Wales. Welsh communities are analogous to civil parishes in England. There are 878 communities in Wales. History Until 1974 Wales was divided into civil parishes. These were abolished by section 20 (6) of the Local Government Act 1972, and replaced by communities by section 27 of the same Act. The principal areas of Wales are divided entirely into communities.
