Ljuboten Ambush
The Ljuboten clashes, (Macedonian: Љуботенските судири, Albanian: Përplasjet e Lubotenit), also referred to as the Ljubotenski Bacila massacre, (Macedonian: Масакрот на Љуботенски Бачила), happened on 10 August, 2001, when an Macedonian Army truck convoy composed of reservists ran over a landmine near the village of Ljuboten, killing eight men. Immediately after the attack fighting between Albanian rebels and Macedonian forces erupted. The Macedonian government officially blamed the NLA for the attack. The leader of the NLA, Ali Ahmeti, did not confirm NLA involvement in planting the mines, suggested the devices might have been placed by government forces to prevent rebel crossings, and expressed his regret at the incident. Ljuboten, Butel
Ljuboten ( mk, Љуботен, sq, Luboten) is a village in the municipality of Butel, North Macedonia. It used to be part of Čair Municipality. Demographics According to the 1467-68 Ottoman defter, Ljuboten appears as being inhabited by an Orthodox Albanian population. Some families had a mixed Slav-Albanian anthroponomy - usually a Slavic first name and an Albanian last name or last names with Albanian patronyms and Slavic suffixes. The names are: Dimitri the son of Toman, Todor his son, Nikola the brother of Dimitri, Ton-ça the son of Toça, Jovan the son of Gjergj, Petro the son of Gjergji, Nikola i son of Paltush (Palo-Tushi). Albanian Language
Albanian ( endonym: or ) is an Indo-European language and an independent branch of that family of languages. The Albanians in North Macedonia ( sq, Shqiptarët në Maqedoninë e Veriut, mk, Албанци во Северна Македонија) are the second largest ethnic group in North Macedonia, forming 446,245 individuals or 24.3% of the resident population. Ljuboten
Ljuboten ( Serbian and mk, ) or Luboten (in Albanian) is a peak of the Šar Mountains located on the border between Kosovo and North Macedonia. Its elevation is . Ljuboten, although not the highest peak of the range, is somewhat isolated from the rest of the mountains, making it visible from both Pristina and Skopje. The majority of Ljuboten, the north, north-west, east, and south-east sides are located within Kosovo. On the Macedonian side of the peak there is a mountain house called Ljuboten, as well as Shija Ljubotenska ("Ljuboten's Neck"), Kozja Karpa ("Goat's Rock"), Shiljast Kamen ("Pointed Rock"), and Rogacevski Korita. Johan Tarčulovski
Johan Tarčulovski (born 17 November 1974), is a Macedonian soldier, politician and former security inspector for Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski. Tarčulovski participated in the 1990s insurgency in the Republic of Macedonia. Career Tarčulovski's political career began after the independence of the Republic of Macedonia in 1991, and he was one of the early members of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization – Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity. In 1993, he was named president of the Cair Municipality Youth Force Union. With the victory of VMRO-DPMNE in the 1998 elections, Tarculovski joined the security crew for the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia Ljubco Georgievski. In 1999, he was appointed as bodyguard of the President of Macedonia. He remained as his bodyguard until Trajkovski's death in a plane crash.
